Hey guys, I'm converting some 1280x720 mkv files to standalone compatible xvid at 720x480 (16:9 output display aspect ratio). Bitrate will be around 2000 kbps. Using avidemux 2.4.3 could someone recommend me some good high quality settings for XviD Encoding Options please? Thanks

1. You are not allowed to ask "what's best", better rephrase your question before the thread gets closed by a mod.

2. I think for hardware compatibility you should keep "QPel" and "GMC" off

3. For all the rest I would max out all settings to squish out as much quality as possible (user lower/faster settings, if you don't have the time)

Sorry, thanks for the edit Neuron.

1) For the H.264 B-frame detection warning, is it okay to press "Cancel" or is it recommended to use "Safe Mode"?

2) Basically I'm using all the default settings for MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid4). I know if I enable certain advanced features like QPel and GMC, my player doesn't like it. But since I'm encoding at a (relatively) high resolution and bitrate, I'd like to know if there are any changes to Quantization restrictions (min/max I/P/B frames) and under the Second Pass tab that I should consider.

Thanks very much guys.

1. Avidemux doesn't handle H.264 in the proper frame-accurate way yet, but for now the "Safe Mode" should be safe (what a surprise ^^).

2. One B-Frame should be the safest option for standalone players (as used by DivX). Two gives better compression, but is less safe. You shouldn't go above 3 anyway.

(I'm not aware of any Keyframe-Interval restrictions, but at a certain point seeking will become painful)
