Why you not use GCC 4.3.2, it's mush better then too old 3.4.5 ?
What is better? The only reason for me to use GCC 4.x.x is that it supports the alignment fix, which is required to built "libx264.dll" for Avidemux.
As long as GCC 3.4.5 creates a working "x264.exe" build, there is no important reason to update. And I think GCC 3.4.5 is known to produce a "faster" build than GCC 4.3.2 ...

<rant> sigh, pop-metal for mtv kiddies :p </rant>Apparently someone actually needs to look up a band before they flame it, lest they accidentally pick the wrong genre :p

LOOOOL.... You couldn't be further from the truth :p As DS said, check them out - they're a relatively minor Swedish alternative metal band that uses the SID chip from the Commodore 64 to mix their music xD They are actually quite anti-pop, too, as am I - listen to the songs "Rise" and the mockout "Gimme More" :p

Yes, it does!
That songs starts with some pseudo-metal intro and as soon as the guy starts singing it's a 100% MTV-compatible pop song ...
My statement stands ;)

Getting too far off topic, moved to new topic. For the record, I like them, since I dig chiptunes and the whole big cheesy 80's, but they are a pretty poppy metal band. That's why they have such a huge following. :p

Did you even listen all the way though!?

You guys just don't know good music when you hear it :p
Can you sense our somewhat misaligned
attention spans, uninterested minds
Feels like only white noise on the air
A substance without meaning
Who are we? And why should we believe?
(Lost inside, lost inside, lost inside…)
How much more of this can you contain?
Why is it, your head feels like a drain?
But you don’t have to be an end-link in this chain
Become our counter-culture
Broadcast yourself into the revolution on YouTube
I don't wanna know, kill the radio
I will find my own transmission in the storm
Hurry on below, with the antidote
I wanna see the underground rise up and soar
Sick of pimps and bland generic blondes?
And poser wannabe fake rocker spawns?
Come now be your own media whore
Become our counter-culture
Unleash yourself between the generation and the scene
It's the way to go, kill the radio
Time to make your own transmission in the storm
Hurry on below, with the antidote
I wanna see the underground rise up and soar
I don't wanna know, kill the radio
I will find my own transmission in the storm
Hurry on below, with the antidote
I wanna see the underground rise up and..
It's the way to go, kill the radio
Time to make your own transmission in the storm
Hurry on below, with the antidote
I wanna see the underground (rise up and soar)
(Keyboard Solo)
I can feel the fire deep inside, it's burning brighter
We burn a raised fist and my pride,
I sway
to the beat of our decay, the horsemen on their way
And in this mob a crescent line to hide behind
Here in and of the dark, our city, it's streets and walls
Here we live, we are, inside our homes and malls
I walk across the dead train yard,
remembering who we are
I look inside and in my heart,
we're never far apart
I can't see the mountain over me, the Serpent Hollow
The silent fortress underneath,
I sway
to the beat of our decay, the light of harder days
And fires hide the black island, the toxic sand
Dancing city lights glowing against the sky
Snowing, shimmering, shine dust in our eyes
I walk across the dead train yard,
remembering who we are
I look inside and in my heart,
we're never far apart
And in the yellow velvet air
I carve my name without fear
A witness to the birth of me,
This garden of concrete
I walk across the dead train yard,
remembering who we are.
I look inside and in my heart,
we're never far apart
And in the yellow velvet air
I carve my name without fear
A witness to the birth of eve
This garden of concrete

I did not say it is not good. You may listen to whatever makes you happy :)
All I said is that that this is "pop-metal" and that's a fact. Goto Youtube, search for "Roots Bloody Roots" or "Creeping Death" and you'll understand what I mean.
And if that still isn't enough to convince you, then search for "Marduk - Steel Inferno" to get the real sick shit ...

SOAD were one of my favorite bands. Still hope they go on one day :D

So, it's pop until there's no recognizable melody? ;)
SOAD do rock, though, unlike those others. While I'm fine with hard metal, I like my music sounding like music. Disturbed, Tool, Trivium, and a little of Mudvayne is about as far as I go.

The opposite is the case. The songs are simply more complex and the "melody" (note the quotes) is more subtle. Often takes some time and patience to train your ears on that.
In pop music the melodies must be as obvious as possible, because there is not much time. After one week the song is gone from the charts and nobody will ever listen to it again :p
But discussion about music preferences will lead nowhere. Different people prefer different music ...

Hm, interesting theory actually. I'll try that. I really love rhythm, loose rhyme, etc. though. Not as much liking easy-to-hear melodies, as just liking an overall pattern, etc. Though points where all that is tossed away is appreciated (good example being Avenged Sevenfold - Chapter Four).
And LOOOL @ Sharktooth...

well the definition of music genres may vary with time, however, pop stands for popular (meaning also commercial) so widely listened and accepted.
i see pop something different than a music genre, since, for example, even metallica (that once were the no.1 thrash metal band) are now popular... hence pop.
so, afterall, what was/is meant or created to be widely listened and attract the masses is inequivocably meant or created to be popular.

I definitely wouldn't say that MaSu is pop, then, by that definition - they experiment very much with their sound, have released over fifty tracks online for free (in free formats like Vorbis and FLAC too!), and very rarely do I meet anyone who's heard of them. SOAD, on the other hand, which LoRd_MuldeR says is not pop, I see T-shirts, etc. for all the time. Although it is harder to judge whether they "meant or created to be widely listened". I think every band wants to be widely listened to, and the mainstream music genre changes all the time anyways.
