Hi all!
Is it possible to play DVD disc over network? I tried to play the VOB file on a disc on my other comp connected to my comp via 10/100 LAN (peer to peer with crossover cable). It played for about 1 second and the whole thing hanged. It did the same thing everytime I tried to play.
I actually thought PowerDVD would recognise the dvd drive after I mapped it but it wouldn't so I reach the conclusion that the software is restricted to internal PC's drives only...am I right? Can someone explain to me more about this? Thanks before!

Did you try to copy whole DVD to HD and play it from there over network using PowerDVD4 ? As I understand this way it will need more power from PC where you watching movie and you have to have transfer rate over network at least 2MB/s all the time.
Give it a try .

Authentication wouldnt work - So you wouldnt actually be able to read the files.
If you first authenticated the disk on the 'server' machine, you could read the files from the 'workstation' machine via WinIO, but low level IO (ASPI/SPTI) would fail.
Most players would probably be able to cope with that.

Can you guys give me more information on how to play DVD from a network drive? The post above doesn't seem to help. Thanks.

If you rip it to the hard drive first, you save space from the menus and extras. Then you can easily tell your player to search the network for the folder where they are ripped.

Well, I don't actually know how to play a DVD from a network mapped drive, but you can try using the Free and OpenSource tools from www.videolan.org (http://www.videolan.org/) ; with these tools, you can : stream a DVD or any media file over a LAN ! :)
In fact, you can play your DVD either with "Video On Demand" (HTTP Streaming with seeking/pausing in the stream possible) or on UDP.
It works fine, but there is something I haven't tried yet: playing a DVD from a host, multicasting the DVD video/audio stream to computers belonging to multicast groups...
