I had a small computer crash....fixed it fine.
However, VirtualDub will not save avi now (File Save AVI). I can load stuff into VDub, preview it, etc., but it will not save a new avi. Bizarre. VDUB mod will not run either..any ideas on this...major weird.

Hi!
Sounds like one or more files that the programs have in common has/have been corrupted.
Have you tried simply uninstalling and re-installing both program packages?

What error message do you get?

@setarip_old
Not sure what you mean to install....I have gone to my backups for Vdub, but no luck...even if I load a simple DV file the save function in Vdub does not work
@neuron2
Funny....I get NO ERROR message at all..nothing. Vdub just sits there.
Very strange....I had a BSOD for some reason...I never added anything new. Everything else works, so I wonder if a vfw issue has occured?
I could re-install XP...about time for that anyway.
lemme know if you have any other suggestions. Again, preview works, etc. I just cannot save avi.
Bizzaro!!!!

This happens for all codecs?
Post it at the VirtualDub forum, too.

When you go to save avi, does it come up with the dialog asking where to save the file and what name to give it? If there's a box at the bottom of that dialog called "Don't run this job now; add it to job control so I can run it in batch mode.", make sure it is UNTICKED.
Edit: Ah, Phaeron beat me on the other forum.

yah I checked that....I get the file name to enter, click ok (that job box is not ticked) but nothing happens....if I can't figure this out no worries...about time to reinstall anyway; just a very curious problem

about time to reinstall anyway In this day and age people are still not making system backups?! I mean, you buy car insurance, right? Something could go wrong and you want to be prepared for it. What's the difference? The difference is that a car is replacable while some precious data is not. So, there's all the more reason to have insurance for your data.

??????????
Not sure what you are talking about....I have tons of backups....just restored via XP image that took all of 10 mins.
What are you referring to? I lost nothing, but I do find clean XP installs once a year beneficial.
Acutally I backup to my linux network server, external usb and external raid.
BTW Vdub works now....

"Re-install" generally means a clean OS install. I'm talking about restoring a system image. I've never had to do a re-install.

I know it's ot but how, umh... "old" is the system image after the OS is installed? Does it include all drivers and applications (which would have to be uninstalled and replaced with latest versions) or is it just after a fresh OS install?

I've done both....depends on my mood...if it is 30 below out then I will do reinstall
in terms of drivers....they are there from first install....
all seems ok now!!!!

Does it include all drivers and applications (which would have to be uninstalled and replaced with latest versions) or is it just after a fresh OS install? I take a fresh system image every week. It includes everything to allow me to get back to where I was in less than 15 minutes.

I could have problems due to changes made at least a month before I notice/link those problems (and I don't like burning system images to write-once media.) :p
I prefer to backup important data (including all programs and application settings) regularly and also have an image of a fresh install, but that's just me.

sounds like everyone has their own plan...which is good. I know people who do nothing...nothing.

I keep 10 versions back. I only needed to restore a system once about 6 years ago, but man, was I happy I had the backup!
