Since using this excellent program I believe I have been one of the fortunate ones, in that I havent expierienced the crashing / freezing etc.
However, since loading 1.06 B1 I have had encoded a movie twice & the audio was out of sync both times!
settings were defaulted as loaded.

any Idea's or could it be the movie. (Evolution)

Also is it my imagination or has the encoding time increased with this version?

I used to get around 1.1 - 1.4 encoding speed in CCE & now it averages at around .850

P4 1.7
1Gb pc133
XP

P.S. I'm thinking it maybe an XP re-install time perhaps!
TIA for any thoughts.

Seems to work okay, but I had to open the ECL file manualy !

In CCE "DVD2SVCD" uses SENDKEYS ... why ?

Have you tried opening up the ripped VOBS in a software DVD player to see whether the movie's in sync? If not then try using another ripper. Some movies can be troublesome, not that I've had any problems in my limited experience.

Slick, I think it would have been more helpful if you had given a little more information. Log? AVS file? What method of ripping?

It is hard to read minds.

I used the same ver of this excellent prog for the firtst time and I was realy excited!

After I burnt the image file of the 1st cd I put it in the DVD player (Amoisonic 8506) and I noticed that the movie was out of sync. First he video and after came the sound with a delay. (u noticed already I am a rook ! :) )

I started experimenting with the svcd: ff, next chapter and I was nearly to the end of the 1st cd 29min of 32min, when I noticed that the sync was back and the movie played FINE! No sync problem anymore! I skipped back to chapter 1 and the problem was gone.

I ejected the cd and reloaded it and the problem was back again. Skipped to the last chapter and the back to the 1st and the prob was again gone!

So, I guess the problem is with my DVD Player and not with DVD2SVCD, right? Is there a possibility to fix this prob when I encode the movie?

Thanx in advance and sorry for the long post,
Stazzy

Sorry DDog.

the movie "Evolution" is region 2 Pal (96mins)

I used Dvd rip using internal routines.

the movie is 16:9 & I converted to 4:3

I generally use CBR or 1 pass vbr q.factor 5 & I.quality 5 as discussed in depth recently on this forum.

I tried the 1 pass vbr & Cbr. both these had the audio out of sync. by around 20-30 secs!

since my post I have just completed it again, but this time Vbr 3 pass.

it took 12hrs to complete :( I've just played the Mpeg & it is OK. :D (from the ripped Vobs created originally using the Dvd rip & internal routines)

I am more concerned now about the drop in CCE speed.
as stated in my previous post the drop from 1.1 - 1.4 to around .8 with CBR is strange.

I also noted the CCE speed with the Vbr 3 pass was .475 avg :(

whats up?
who & why move the post?

are my posts not advanced enough?
or was it not the type of question you want in the forum.

an explanation would be nice.:(

Still waiting for avs and log. When one does not supply this a mod might thing you are not advanced enough. ;)

thanks DDog.

unfortunately i am now getting annoyed.

O.k hows this.

being advanced enough to sort out most of my own problems since being 5 years old i don't usually bother others if at all possible.

this being the case I don't tend to save my logs. I tend to continue & try something else until I find the answer.

I dont usually bother posting these logs to this or any forum because when I have a problem serious enough I will send it to the Author, as stated in Dvd2svcd's own "things to do before mailing me" thread.

what I did, or tried to do was "test the water" to see if anyone else had the same problem.
what I don't expect is to be treated like a child or something nasty that one has stood in.

what i particularly find distasteful is someone moving my post to the newbies forum.
if I thought it could be answered in the newbie forum I would have posted it there myself.
etiqette works both ways.
like i said before. an explanation would be nice.

I have seen too many seemingly genuine calls for help Flamed by all & sundry to post every little problem to a forum.

I tend to spend hours reading everything posted by anyone & everyone. to this & many other forums.
if I cannot resolve a problem myself I will post.

but, if this causes a problem the answer is easy.

I'll stop posting, I'll stop Donating, & I'll stop helping others where I can.

I'll milk the system for all it's worth & start "taking" like the majority.

and when i am treated like s**t i will behave like S**t.

this is not aimed at you particularly DDog or Dvd2svcd or many others who have helped me since I first started posting to Doom9s forum.
I am just tired at the way innocent posts requesting information or comments can be totaly misinterpreted.

with that I will say Good night.

Regardless of who moved it (I didn't ..I'm no longer a mod) but anyway it's impossible to please everyone. Hell mods aren't perfect at all and make mistakes bigtime. I'm not dissing your point you eloquently made or even going to take sides cuz it's pointless for me to get involved. I'm just saying...hell I don't know what I'm saying. One thing though...you shouldn't take out your frustration on DVD2SVCD the programmer and not donate because of something he did NOT do. Personalities conflict all the time and mistakes are a daily occurence. My point is don't shove your anger towards DVD2SVCD the programmer who deserves none of it.

[edit]as far as answer your original question goes:
I've had out of synch issues and with Eagles Hell Freezes over and a couple of others (can't remember titles) and then I used smartripper and the problem disappeared. I'd attempt that before playing with Movie offset seconds or startup delays.

also I guess I'm off base since you did say "not aimed at you particularly DDog or Dvd2svcd " . So I apologize for flying off the hammer. Just be glad your not as frustrated as this guy (http://www.rick.com/sounds/media/cpcable.ram) (real player)

@mrBass

yes you are correct (as usual);)

I don't suppose I really intend to penalise anyone, least of all Dvd2svcd.
despite what I said I will still support Dvd2svcd with his efforts Financialy & the forum in general when I can.

I suppose I am just blowing off steam. (tired of being dissed)
I am still extremely annoyed but cooling quickly.

how you Mods (& ex-mods manage I dont know)

@Slick and stazzy:
I own a Toshiba SD-210E, a DVD-Player known for its sync-issues. With the default settings of dvd2svcd the audio is delayed about 0.5 seconds behind the movie.

I did a bit of testing and finally got a setup that works for me. Try to play with the startup delays for video and audio in the bbMPEG tab. For me 260 ms for video and 120 for audio works perfectly. The video and audio is sync on the standalone and in PowerDVD or WinDVD.

And don't be afraid that the created discs won't play correctly with other standalones because i now tested these settings on a Philips DVD 761 and a Grundig GDV 130 with no sync issues. But this is surely not a 100% guaranty so someone can prove me wrong if he knows of players that don't play a svcd muxed that way (i'm really interested in this!).

So just use crash recovery and start over from the muxing point with different startup delays and see if the audio and video is synced. It takes time but it is worth it. For me my sync issues have gone.
