i just got EVR working with my XP machine, and setting it to EVR, black borders are dark grey. if i use EVR custom, the borders are black like normal. the video levels seem to be right, its just the borders that are grey.
i read on a different forum that you need to get into the EVR properties and uncheck "render borders" or something like that, but i don't know if/how i can do that in XP.
please help.

Just use EVR custom? That's the one I use anyway since it has the options for the buffers.

i dont know why, but i notice tearing in certain videos with EVR custom, even if i lock the buffer. will increasing the buffers help with this?
i did a lot of searching, and i guess you're supposed to uncheck "draw borders" in the EVR properties, but i can't figure out how to get in the properties page. GRR!

Download evrprop from http://cid-94cc264fce430b66.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/evrprop.zip
unzip the content, regsvr32 it and you should be able to access the EVR extra properties that allows you to uncheck border rendering.

i've done that, but i still don't know where to go to open the EVR properties.

Assuming that you have regsvr32 the evrprop file properly, just play a video with EVR renderer, right-click the video screen, go to Filters --> Enhanced Video Renderer and the new property page should appear.

i put the evrprop.dll file in system23, i went to start -> run and typed in "regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\evrprop.dll" without the quotes; it said it succeeded. i tried playing a video using EVR renderer, right clicked the screen, went to properties and i didn't see any EVR settings.
edit: i think i figured out how to view the properties of the renderer, but i don't think EVR is working right despite me having the option to choose it because the properties page i'm seeing doesn't look like the one i've seen on other forums.

weird... dxva compatible movies, theres no EVR properties page in MPC for me, but there is if i'm using CoreAVC as the decoder.
so i found the EVR properties page, so thats good news... but now whenever i uncheck 'render border', it doesn't fix my problem, and when i re-open the video, its checked again.
grr, i've never had so many problems with something before.

Changes made to the renderer will never stick (or at least I do not know how to do it if its possible). But you should be able to access the EVR property page even when playing videos in DXVA mode.

weird, because i can't.
unchecking "render border" doesn't seem to fix my problem either.

If you have an nVidia gpu put the latest drivers then change the luma range in the nVidia control panel to 0-255.

the videos levels are fine, its just the bars that dark grey. apparently, i'm not alone... googling this issue, others have the same problem.
