View Full Version : Problem encoding Rambo Blu Ray - tsMuxeR related. Defintely nothing to do with MeGui

Hi Guys, can anyone help me here!
I've encoded a couple of my other Blu Rays, but Rambo is causing me problems at the moment.
Its the first disc I've found which has the movie split across numerous files and the guides I've seen online say to use TSSplitter to join the files into one to then use to encode from.
Problem is TSSplitter doesn't seem to want to work on my PC, comes up with an error todo with security permissions. I'm running Vista 64 SP1. Its not an UAC error as I have that disabled.
Anyway, I used BDEdit to find out which m2ts files I needed to join to get the movie in one piece and tried to use TSMuxer (1.8.4) to mux them into one file.
Problem is it doesn't seem to work, the M2TS file which is produced won't play in Media Player Classic (where as the individual files will do). By won't play I mean that it appears to load in OK, it works out the length of the media correctly but sits at 00:00 time and doesn't actually play the file, even though its in play mode!
Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to do to get a file I can use with AVISynth to encode the movie with MeGUI.
Ooh, also - subtitles. Having never done a Blu Ray with subtitles before, how do you go about putting them into a MKV file? I'm having to use MKV2Vob afterwards to convert it into a VOB so the PS3 will play it and keep the multiple AC3 surround tracks.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried joining the files with eac3to? (see the audio encoding forum)

... so it's not a megui problem. please fix the title.

Ah, true its more tsMuxer really, although TBH, I don't know really where the problem lies.
Thanks for your helpful input though.

Unless I've missed something?

Actually, I may have fixed the problem, it turns out that TSMuxer changes the H264 streams, you have to manually edit the meta file it produces and then run that through the TSMUXER.exe file at the command prompt to generate a compliant file - doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the ContSPS option via the GUI.
If this is the start of the meta file
MUXOPT --no-pcr-on-video-pid --new-audio-pes --cbr --bitrate=8000 --vbv-len=500
#V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC, "D:\Blu Ray Sources\RAMBO\BDMV\STREAM\00379.m2ts"+"D:\Blu Ray Sources\RAMBO\BDMV\STREAM\00372.m2ts", insertSEI, contSPS, track=6912
You need to remove the bold bit from the meta file for each Video Stream you intend to mux into the new file. If you leave that in, you'll get an invalid Video stream which will cause the entire file to fail to play.
Update: That said, there are problems I think with this title as (probably at the end of the first m2ts file) it jumps into a clip of stallone going on about something. I haven't watched the directors commentary, but it may well be something to do with that.
Has anyone actually ripped this film (its Rambo IV) into AVI / MKV and can tell me how to do it. As I said above, I've done other films, but they were easy compared to this one! I presume people have as during googling for help with this problem I found loads of torrents of this film, so it obviously can be done...

Hi!
You might want to perform a Doom9 Forum search, set for "Posts" rather than the default "Threads", for (enter this ENTIRE phrase as is) "Rambo" and "BluRay".
Among other possibly useful posts, you'll find the following:

again, yours is a ripping problem. fix the title... megui has nothing to do with it.

If it only did audio I wouldn't have sugessted it.

Yeah, I was only saying that I thought it was a bit odd as it does appear to be just an audio thing, I wasn't thinking you were an idiot or anything.

As you command, oh master

The simplest solution:
1) install AnyDVD
2) open any .m2ts from original Blu-ray disc in RipBot264

Yeah, last time I tried Ripbot though it didn't really give me any control over the file it generates. I appreciate that's probably the point, but I want AC3 sound in my files and I have to do that via MKV. I'll give it another look though as I haven't tried it for a while.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers for the help, I'll head over there now. I think I probably went wrong by splitting BluRay into two words.

This GUI is extremely simple and you did not discover how to change CQ to 2-pass?!?!?!?!?! Ohh my god!!! Is that hard to play a little bit with options?!?!?

Like I said, it was a while ago and I didn't explore it at great detail at the time. I don't even remember an options screen! As there is an Options screen, that's great. I don't recall why I didn't look at it that much, it may well be that I wasn't looking for BR encoding apps at the time, I don't recall the exact reason now why I didn't spend much time with it.
Only downside is that I can't install it until MeGUI has finished encoding another movie as it would mean having to remove the Vista Codec Pack I downloaded to get the m2ts file to play with AVISynth.
Besides, I wasn't on about the quality of the Rip (although that is also something I would want to set), its the sound option. IIRC (and as I alluded to above, I may well be wrong), you couldn't select any audio options with respect to AC3, it only demuxed them down to whatever it felt you wanted, probably AAC or something.
Like I said, I need to have a play with it a bit.

I am looking for help, I didn't appreciate the tone of that guy's replies, that's all. I tend to reply with heavy doses of sarcasm to people like that.

OK then,
The only demuxer which is gonna work is eac3to.
Eac3to is not just an audio extracting/re-encoding tool but the most advanced demuxer as well for video- pulldown removal as default- and subtitles.
Just extract eac3to into a folder for instance named as eac3to under C, in this case your command line will be:
C:\eac3to\eac3to.exe "input folder\input1.m2ts+ input2.m2ts" video track number: "output folder\video.h264(vc1/mpeg2)"
audio track number: "output folder\audio.ac3(or any)"
subtitle track number: "output folder\subtitle.sup"
And later follow these steps: (just for giving an idea)

Well, all I can say is that its changed since I looked at it last!
Its worked perfectly for what I wanted it for. It doesn't allow you to embed an AC3 track without converting it to AAC, but you can always not mux an audio track in with the video and then just add it afterwards with MKVMerge (which is what I do!)
Thanks for the suggestion, works like a dream.

Whaaaat????? If you select mkv container then you will get AC3 options or copy stream.
MGSteve
8th September 2008, 12:22
Erm, not on my copy. I select the AC3 file and all the options I get in the drop down are all AAC options. I'll post a screenshot when it finishes encoding...
Update: Apologies, I obviously didn't click MKV before I checked the drop down. Damn, that would have saved some Muxing time!
Nice work with RipBot264 though, its a nifty little utility.
