View Full Version : DirectVob (or alternative) for embedded substitles?

My grandmother is currently going through the 'Cheers' dvds, a show which I enjoyed but she REALLY loved. She likes watching them on her pc but, given she's a bit hard of hearing, captions are necessary. The weird thing about these DVDs is that they have captions embedded in them but there's no way to select them from the DVD menu. I gave her PowerDVD to use, and the captions appear when you select PowerDVD's 'Captioning' option in right-click menu but she even has trouble reading those. I know that DirectVob is supposed to be able to provide custom subtitles but it just doesn't seem to work with dvd movies. I've only ever seen it with certain HD clips I've downloaded.

So is there a way to get DirectVob to work with regular DVD movies that have embedded subtitles? Or is there an alternate software that will do this?
Thanks in advance...!

Hi!So is there a way to get DirectVob to work with regular DVD movies that have embedded subtitles?I don't believe so.

She's probably better off using a standalone player and watching them on her (presumably larger screen than her PC monitor - and, therefore, larger subtitles) TV screen...
