Maybe somebody here can shed some light on this.
I am using the HDMI out of a Radeon 3650HD to a Sony Bravia LCDTV and most of the video apps I use have tearing.
Vista media center is about the only application that is able to display video without tearing. In fact, vista media center does dvd/mpeg-2 flawlessly. The only other app that seems to work is PowerDVD when it plays a blueray disc and I believe that is because it uses a special mpeg-2 decoder for blueray.
Windows media player, powerdvd (for non-blueray video), avermedia center, quicktime all exhibit some tearing, most noticeably in full screen, and I can't figure out exactly what I need to do to correct it. I've been experimenting with various filter chains in graphedit to find a combination that works, but no luck as of yet. I'd love to know which filter chain Vista media center uses- assuming it doesn't have its own.
I am hesitant to blame the catalyst 8.8 video driver just yet because like I said, vista media center is flawless, but it would seem to me that its the video driver's responsibility to control sync issues, much like a 3d setting that sync's to vertical refresh.
Is there anybody here who is using a system connected to a 1080p display that has had problems with tearing?
Best Regards,
Chas
Edit:
Given how media player classic home cinema uses d3d and locks the back buffer, I am now leaning towards this being a video driver issue.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
