Hi,

I have a problem, I think its called washed-out-colors.
As soon as I play some x264 HD movie with CyberLink's H.264/AVC decoder in DXVA mode I get this washed-out-colors effect, and not only the picture itself gets 'brighter' and the colors pale, but the black bars on top and bottom get grey.
And it doesnt matter if I use CyberLink's decoder in MPC or PowerDVD (v7.3.3319a), its still the same outcome.
This doesnt happen with CoreAVC or DXVA off, so it has to do with hardware, drivers, settings etc.
I did a quick google-search, but couldn't find any solution, most people report this problem with their ATI cards and I have NVIDIA (8800GT).
I know it has something to do with this 16-235/0-255 color scale issue (TV/PC), but what can I do to fix it?
Im sure I didnt have this problem before, I have a normal PC-setup with a TFT-monitor, I dont stream movies and I dont wanna output them to a TV or anything.

I would really appreciate your input on this guys, thx in advance.

Upgrade to the latest Nvidia beta drivers 177.92: in the Nvidia Control Panel -> Video & Television -> Adjust video color settings -> Advanced tab is a new Dynamic Range option when you select "With the Nvidia Settings".

The Dynamic Range option should give you the opportunity to use video levels (16-235) which give that washed out look, or full range (0-255) which will make black, black.

thx a lot IanD, it works, can enjoy DXVA again, was using CoreAVC for the time being.
I did some more research on it and found that this option exists since 177.66. Nvidia developed it for the 'black crush' problem they call it, to help HTPC users with Nvidia cards, cause most HDTV's only accept RGB data in the limited spectrum (16-235) and the cards were outputing data in full range (0-255).
Funny, cause in my case its the exact opposite, at least now we can choose the color space ourselves.

Great to hear that nvidia FINALLY has a driver option to choose between video levels
and full range output. This is a happy day for me :) Thank you, nvidia. Hell, it was about time...

I will install the new drivers ASAP.
