how would you guys burn avi/mkv file which is more than 2GB, nero complains that ISO can support till 2GB only. One way is to split in 2GB chunks. I see DVD-UDF profile in nero, with this if i can burn any avi/mkv file bigger than 2GB on a DVD-R, will my stand-alone dvd-player be able to play the avi(xvid) file frm the DVD-R media ?

Just burn it using ImgBurn.

Most standalones will gag on an AVI file over 2GB. If your player supports MP4, try it instead, you may be lucky.

Hi!
Just split the .AVI and burn both parts to the same DVD...

1) Burn it as UDF format (I'd suggest 2.00 or 2.01 for best compatibility). Note that most standalone players won't play it though as khagaroth says.
2) You could split it in half as setarip_old says and use good old ISO for each half.
Nero can burn UDF in various formats (all the way up to 2.50 I believe) and while I'm not a fan of Nero, just burning with ImgBurn will not magically solve all your problems. Generally standalones can't play anything over 2 GB in size, no matter what file system is on the disc. UDF is often not recognized at all, but you have to have UDF to have file sizes bigger than 2 GB - nice catch-22 there.

Hi!You could split it in half as setarip_old says and use good old ISO for each half. Why waste the time and effort to convert the two .AVIs to .ISO image format, when they can simply be burned AS IS to a data DVD?

to hv std-alone compatability, better split the mkv in 2G and burn on the DVDR. Will splitting the MKVs will hv any syn issues later ??

To have "standalone compatibility", you'd best be speaking about .AVIs, as I don't believe there many standalone DVD players that play .MKV files.
As far as split files, if the two parts playback in synch before burning, they should likewise play in synch on your standalone...
