Hello all! I'm new here. I have recently switched Backing up my DVD's to the Mp4-H.264 format. I have had great results but worried about being compatable with X-box and Ps3's. I use Handbrake for my encoding and it has several default settings. One for Ps3's and another for Xbox's. I"m asking is if someone could look at my script for encoding and tell me if it will work on both systems or tell me what to change to make it work please.
Here's what I have----- level=41:ref=2:mixed-refs:bframes=3:bime:weightb:b-rdo:direct=auto:me=umh:subme=5:analyse=all:no-fast-pskip:filter=-2,-1:threads=auto
will this work or can u help me!! Thanks!
I hope this is the right place. Last time I posted this question I posted in the wrong place so if I'm wrong please let me know where I need to post it! TY

Sounds like somebody is walking the plank. I would suggest rewording your question to not implicate yourself in activities that are seen as not so good to talk about around here.

I thought the entire concept of fair use was still open to interpretation. There is fair use, then their is DRM cracking to get the fair use which violates the DMCA.
He was NOT talking about uploading the files etc. This was for his personal use. I have not been to the foums in some time but this was always allowed (say DVD->iPhone ).

Hi!I have had great results but worried about being compatable with X-box and Ps3's.will this work or can u help me!!Why would you ask anyone if the backups you've made will work? Just play them on your XBox and PS3...

To: setarip_old-- I don't own a Ps3 or X-box thats why I can't check out my own work.
To: sjchmura-- I had to reword my original post due to the way I worded it! I have had friends tell me that when they borrow my "back-up's" they don't work on their systems. I just wanted to make sure that I have the right script to ensure that when the next time the borrow them it will work no matter which system they have!

I don't have either of them!?????
So why do you want to create files for playback on systems that you don't have?

I play them back on my PC but when I have friends that bug me of wanting to borrow them It doesn't play! So I figured I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and just encode it to the right specs the first time in case they ever borrow there's no issue!
I thought I could get some help but I either did something wrong or posted in the wrong place. I didn't relize I needed to give a pint of blood to get help.
Sorry If it sounds rude But I figured I would get a yes or no answer with maybe a helpful hand

To properly get videos to playback on a PS3 and a XBOX 360 you will more than likely need to get ahold of each so you can do your own testing.
In saying that i use mencoder to encode avi's for XBOX 360, and the same files played back fine on the PS3 abit buggy tho.....
Its going to be hard to create cross compatible mp4's as the PS3 and XBOX both have their own unique requirements and quirks!
Look at a program called GotSent, might be useful for you.....
But keep in mind... giving movies to your friends is just as illegal as downloading them, and is certainly not fair use!!!
PS Google is a great resource, it's not hard to find the information your after....

I didn't know that! It is something that everyone does? I have borrowed many movies from friends in the past! I make back-ups of all my CD's also so that I have one for the car and house and the original stays unscratched. TY for that info.

Well i guess it's not straight cut, if you lend a movie to a friend and they return it thats fine..... if you lend a movie to a friend and they make a copy, then that is illegal....... it's no different from downloading it, it has been aquired without being paid for.
I know everyone does it.... but just because everyone does it doesnt mean it's not illegal!
