I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to extract an ac3 stream from a DVD to my PC...is there a simple way to do this?

:thanks:

I'd suggest DVDDecrypter (IFO mode).

I'd suggest DVDDecrypter (IFO mode).

Yup. Don't forget to use the "Demux" mode, as the "Direct Stream Copy" one will give you a VOB and you will have to demux the AC3 from it afterwards.

DGIndex is easy also.

DGIndex is easy also.

But this assumes the user already has a VOB containing the vid + audio on his hard drive, and nothing here indicates that it is the case. The thread title says "from DVD", so the easiest way is definitely DVD Decrypter's "Demux" mode. Using DGIndex for that is pointless.

Don't forget though that if the dvd is encrypted with a newer protection (not so rare nowadays), dvddecrypter wont be able to rip it.

It should also be noted that DGIndex doesn't handle DVDs with seamless branching or multiple angles correctly. At least as far as I know (please someone correct me if I'm wrong). While DVDDecrypter in IFO mode handles them beautifully...

In DVDDecryptor, under options, Stream Processing, I see the Demux option...Direct Stream copy has an * in the text box...what do I need to add here to get it to Demux the ac3 from the DVD? I'm a little confused about this step...I've used Decryptor dozens of times, just never to strip an ac3 stream from a disc...

With DVDDecrypter set to Mode->IFO, use the Input screen to select the PGC of interest. Click on the Stream Processing tab to see a listing of all video, audio, and subtitle streams in your selected PGC.

Click on the audio stream of interest. At the bottom of the Stream Processing window are three radio-button options: Direct Stream Copy, Demux, and Raw. Click on Demux in order to get the AC3 file alone. Clicking on Direct Stream Copy would give you a VOB file, still containing video, audio, and subtitle streams all multiplexed together.

@brogan

Hi!

A little further clarification may be in order - See my Step 5) in particular:

1) Load your DVD

2) Set DVD Decrypter to "IFO" mode

3) DVD Decrypter should automatically highlight/select the main

movie under the "Input" tab

4) Click on the "Stream Processing" tab and check "Enable

stream processing"

5) UNcheck all of the videostreams and audiostreams OTHER

THAN THE ONE YOU WISH TO EXTRACT.

6)HIGHLIGHT the stream you wish to extract

7) Click on "Demux"

8) Click on the "Destination" icon and select the drive/folder

location to save the audiostream to

9) Click on the "Decrypt" icon

Note - For an LPCM stereo audiostream, you may have to go

to:

Tools>>Settings>>IFO Mode and increase the VOB/WAV size from

1Gb to 2Gb, in order to be sure to generate only one .VOB/WAV file for

the entire audiostream

Now that the ac3 is in the pc, how do I convert it to MP3 so I can take it with me.

TIA

There are a variety of ways. Take a look at Behappy, as it can do exactly what you want.

Also, MeGUI can do the same thing, along with BeLight. I myself use Behappy, and highly recommend it.

I've tried to figure out how to use the behappy and always bungle it. Would you be able to provide a step by step like brogan's May 27th instructions?

TIA

I cannot right now, as I am not at the right computer, but I would be happy to do so in the next few days. Hopefully tomorrow.

PM me and remind me if I forget.

Could I have done the transfer from DVD to mp3 all in one action using behappy?

Okay, open up Behappy.

Click on the "..." button under Source.

Under "Files of Type", select NicAC3source.

Select your ac3 file.

Select whatever filters you need, usually a downmix to stereo is necessary, but normalizing it also isn't a bad idea.

Then under "Destination" click the "..." button as well, and under "Save as Type", click Lame MP3. give it your file name, or use the default and and click "Save"

Then click on the "..." button next to the Lame MP3 drop down box, and click configure. Use whatever settings you desire as the quality is up to you.

When finished, click "OK".

After that, click "Enqueue". Navigate over to the Queue tab, and hit the "Start" button. Enjoy your new MP3!!
