Hey everyone,
I had my PS3/X360 connected to my PC using a simple stereo RCA-3.5"plug Y cable, and my speakers connected to my PC... but after having some noise in the signal, I decided to "go digital". SPDIF came to my mind... however my mobo didn't have a toslink input header so I went and bought one online.
I thought it was going to be more straight-forward, I expected the SPDIF in to behave just like a normal input, but it doesn't, I couldn't hear anything. (BTW I'm using my mobo's sound, a Realtek ALC880).
What's the supposed usage of a darn SPDIF in?! You can't hear it through the speakers, so are you supposed to connect a decoder to the SPDIF out and use the PC as a passthrough?! That's just stupid, why not go ahead and connect the console to the decoder directly...
Then I remembered AC3Filter had some SPDIF functions so I tried it in graphedit. I heard the *clicks* of the PS3's menu, but I couldn't hear anything from a game/music/video, turns out the PS3 copy-protects them... WTF, more stupidity. I then tried with the X360, but in only works in Stereo mode.
All in all, what's happening is that the DShow filter that gets the input from the SPDIF only works in PCM mode (so in fact I don't even need the AC3Filter, I can just connect the SPDIF directly to the DShow audio output and it works fine), so whenever I configure the console to output as AC3, it stops working. Is there anyway to configure this damn input as an AC3? Or forcefully tell AC3Filter that the input is AC3 and not PCM?!
I've read several threads here and in other forums, but I didn't get any answers. What's the point of a SPDIF in then?!
Thanks
