View Full Version : Demuxing and Cutting TS Files

I got two TS files that were recorded using our satellite receiver from BBC HD channel

My goal is to append them to each other and cut a bit off at the beginning now I ran into the following problems:

- VLC player wouldn't play the ts files without crashing after 1-2 seconds on this pc and on another pc it stutters a lot (not cpu related but more like some static pics in there)

- ProjectX gives me only errors that say : dropping video data, GOP larger than 6MB

- Mpeg2Repair that I tried won't work with the original ts files only after I once put them through VLC player to save them as a stream again (i.e. I rerouted the output to a file which was 400mb larger than the original o.O)

- Xport seems to work but cuttermaran won't open the outputted files

- h264tscutter plays the files but gives me the following notice after opening the ts file: It seems in this ts is no IDR-Frame

- If I open the original ts files that I got from the satellite receiver (without putting them through vlc first) in h264tscutter I get the error message maxTriesIDR

- Media Player Classic plays the file without any problems at all ^^

Any help would be greatly appreciated

BBC HD transmissions have AVC/H.264 video tracks thus you can't use Project-X.
If you use h264tscutter on the Option-Settings-TS-Settings-page you should untick
"CutOut only on IDR-frame" and on the "Advanced Settings page" you should set
"CutIn frame type" to I-frame and "CutOut frame type" to All-frame.

This is required as BBC HD does not transmit IDR-frames as far as I know.

If you use a HD-receiver with an external hard disc and obtain the recordings
in the *.trp, *.001, *.002, .... file type then these files first should be copied
after each other with a binary copy command "copy /b fileA+fileB+fileC clip.ts".
Then this clip.ts, which does not contains PMT/PAT-streams, should be remuxed
using tsremux. The remuxed file then can be processed with h264tscutter etc.

Did that in h264tscutter as it instructed me to do that when I loaded the file and it told me that I would have to set that ^^

The second thing happens with our other satellite receiver which I already found out how to join them and they also work on all programs

Try to use TSMuxer or TSRemux for cutting your Ts files.

Thanks = ) that worked

Even though VLC player still crashes with the cut files they play fine in MPC for whatever reason

Thanks a lot again
