I have no computer programming skills. Otherwise I would.

I still enjoy AutoMKV because building a queue is SO MUCH FASTER than HDC, especially when you build a queue with 10-20 videos.

Has development of AutoMKV ceased?

(I still prefer to rip XviD/AVI for most TV-capture projects, particularly cartoons, since there are so many filters available.)
I still enjoy AutoMKV for DVD rips but never discovered the joy of 'filter usage'.
I should imagine TV-capture requires an in depth knowledge of advanced filtering to create professional looking encodes.
What kind of TV signal do you recieve (satellite, cable, HD) ?

I'm looking forward to the Blu-ray release of old material like World at War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_History_of_World_War_II) and Cold War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_War_(TV_series)) with enhanced editing and restoration techniques ...
eventhough it's mostly black & white material anyway.
It's interesting to note that the 1942 B&W release of Casablanca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_War_(TV_series)) was colourised (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_colorization) in the early eighties,
released on DVD in '97 and again released, on Blu-ray in HD (Dec 2008).

In the advent of increased power and flexibility of computer hardware and software ... editing techniques have come a long way since the early days.

Hi Buzzqw, I've used AutoMKV through it's many versions and still find it to be the most useful converter for my needs. My two target devices are a standalone Pioneer DVD player and a Cowon D2 PMP. I've had to tweak the AVI profiles to get them to work properly on each device. I like the looks of HDC, but I haven't seen anyway to modify the profiles for AVI like I can in AutoMKV. Am I just missing something, or isn't this possible in HDC?

In this day and age of multiple TV series, short clips and music videos ... batch encoding is essential.
My first experience with computers at university was through card readers and a 'batch job' system.
Thankfully that was replaced by a CRT terminal (still on mainframe) and later by a Motorola RISC workstation ... fairly close to the flexibility of modern PC's.

I was pleased to see the end of batching but it's returned with avengeance.
The Dr DivX 1.05 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr.DivX) video encoding GUI managed to implement a system of 'watch folders' back in 2004.
It automatically loaded up videos from various folders according to preset profiles.

Don't you just love automation when it works.

just open the hdconverttox_profile.txt and check the xvid line
should be very easy to edit

Actually that's why I like Buzzqw's stuff so much....bcos when it doesn't work you can always find out why and make it work. Using AutoMKV and HDC, I (sometimes eventually :) ) always get done what I set out to do

Hi. I am try to use AutoMKV 0.98.4 and x264 codec revision 1232 from http://mirror01.x264.nl/. Please, help me. Alter I used AutoMKV 0.98.4 with older versions on x264 codecs and all was fine. What can I do to AutoMKV 0.98.4 and x264 codec revision 1232 ? May new profiles neaded? Or were I can take new versoin of x264 coder that will work with this AutoMKV ?

It's caused by BassAudio.dll. I had the same problem. You need to install new version. You will find it in HDConvertToX or search web.

I'm having serious problems trying to get AutoMKV to convert a VC1 file in an M2TS container to H.264. I have installed all latest versions of required software, but when I try to encode, AutoMKV runs for about an hour but creates an empty output file. I'm running Vista on a quad core 2.4 GHz PC with 4G of RAM. I can upload or email my setup and log files if it would help. Thanks.

AutoMKV isn't being supported/updated anymore, your best bet would be to start using HDConvertToX
