This tutorial will show you how to edit audio and subtitles from a dvd and keep 5.1 audio intact using only freeware!
1) First Off Download These Tools.
DVDFab (http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm)
PgcDemux (http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/dvdtools.htm)
BeSweet (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/BeSweetv1.5b31.zip)
BeLight (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/BeLight-0.22beta9.zip)
Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows)
Muxman (http://www.mpucoder.com/Muxman/muxman_0_16_6.zip)
VobBlanker (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/VobBlanker_2130_exe.zip)
DVDSubEdit (http://download.videohelp.com/DVDSubEdit/)
DvdShrink 3.2 (http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/)
2) Open DVDFab And Decrypt The ENTIRE Disc.
For this tutorial, we will use 4 folders called: Ripped, Demuxed, Remuxed, and Reauthored
Rip the ENTIRE disc to "Ripped". (If it needs compressed, we will do that later.)
3) Demux The Main Movie With PgcDemux.
Select the .IFO file that corresponds to the main movie (make sure the right pgc is selected also) and hit check A/V delay, write the times down as you will need them later. Next Demux the video stream, all audio streams, and all subpic streams to "Demuxed" and create a celltimes.txt file
4) Convert The Audio Track That You Want To Edit.
Use Belight to either convert to a 5.1 wave file for opening with something like Sony soundforge OR convert to six single channel wave files and save them. Next, open the center channel, usually "AudioFile_8*.wavC.wav", with Audacity.
5) Edit The Audio.
(At this point, it may be easier to edit the subtitles now and write down the times where editing is needed, then simply go to those places and edit them.) Open the center channel, usually "AudioFile_8*.wavC.wav", with Audacity. Once you have found an area needing editing, select the word(s) and hit Effect > Amplify... then set the amplification to -50db OR hit Generate > Tone... and play with the settings there to make a sound that you would hear on a tv series or such. Once you are done editing, export the file back to wave format and exit Audacity. Note that you may also have to edit other channels as well.
6) Convert The Six Single Channels Back To a Single AC-3 File.
Open BeLight, and select "File > Create mux File." Simply click on each channel and select the respective file, then save it and open it with BeLight. Now, encode them back to AC-3, 5.1 using a high bitrate.
7) Convert Your Subtitles.
Open the subtitles that you want to edit with DvdSubEdit, select "Run OCR' and using the buttons " < > " and/or the slider, navigate to the areas that need editing; edit them and save back to .SUP.
8) Remux Everything Back To Dvd Format.
Open Muxman, add the video, audio streams, and subpicture streams, and import the celltimes.txt by hitting File > Import Chapter. Also add any audio delay from earlier (step "3"). Select "Remuxed" as output directory and hit "Start".
9) Reauthor Back Into Original Dvd.
Open VobBlanker, select the original VIDEO_TS.IFO under "Ripped" and set the output to "Reauthored." Next, under TitleSet select the title with the largest "Ini Size" (i don't see how the main movie could not be the largest) and hit "Process." Under PGCs in Selected TitleSet, select the one with the duration of your movie and hit "Replace", then select "*\Remuxed\VTS_01_0.IFO" and hit Process.
Now you should have an exact duplicate of your original dvd minus what was edited!
10) Shrink, If Needed
Now you can open your dvd with DvdShrink and shrink the movie to fit onto a DVD-5 if need be.
Any comments, suggestions, ways to shorten this tutorial, etc. are Appreciated!
