i have some xvid avi files that wont playback on my ps3 because the VBR mp3 audio stream wasnt encoded properly

is there a tool i can use to re-encode the audio to mp3 ABR/CBR while leaving the video untouched

i know i can use virtualdub but i would like something where i can batch re-encode as i have alot of files

unless virtualdub will allow me to do this as well? (i am new to all of this)

The PS3 should handle VBR audio?

But anyways, install the LAME ACM codec (Google), open an AVI in VirtualDub (choose VBR audio, you need a 1.8.x VDub version), use Direct Stream Copy for the video, under audio, go to full processing, compression, and then Lame MP3, and choose your settings... then File > Save, and check add to job control. You can use the job control under File to manage your batch processing.

the ps3 can handle VBR but with these files i get this error when ever i open them in virtualdub

[!] AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected. VBR audio in AVI is
non-standard and you may encounter sync errors up to 6036ms when
attempting to extract WAV files or playing in some players. If this is a
problem, use Full Processing mode is recommended to decompress or
recompress the audio. (This warning can be disabled in Options,
Preferences, AVI. bitrate: 126.4 ± 13.3 kbps)

this is probably why its not playing and saying unsupported data

the video codec is xvid 1.1.2 and i have other xvid files with the same version that play fine so it must be the audio

Hi!this is probably why its not playing and saying unsupported dataNo, because it 's not an ERROR message, merely an information notification:This warning can be disabled in Options, Preferences, AVI.

1) Do these XviD-compressed .AVIs playback properly on your PC?

2) What software and procedures did you use to create these problematic .AVIs?

3) Please load one of these problematic .AVIs into GSpot and post a screen capture back here

sometimes a simple remux using avimuxgui can solve things.
