I am playing around some audio stuff and I could use a little help since this is kind of new stuff to me. I found somewhere how to do the process of ripping audio from a DVD. I have a few DVDs that I would love to hear more, but just since I have it on DVD, I can’t listen to it as much as I would like. I did the DVD Decrypt of the VOB files to the computer, I did the audio extraction of the VOBs with DGIndex. I have the two sets of files (the project file .d2v and a demuxed copy of the AC3 files) for my music. The music is in DTS which sounds awesome, but I am not really clear what I need to do next. The instructions say something about using a DTSSource.ax and a WinDVD platinum for the next stage. What is the process here and what do I need to do? The next step after this is to convert to WAV using a program called BeSweet to make my WAV version. Since the music is in surround sound the wav that is created should now have that killer sound ability. I just need to figure out the DTS step and then I should be good.
On a similar note, I have some music I have of a friends local band. Is there a way to take video from a captured DV and make that in surround sound like the above process? Just playing around with audio and like I said don’t mind me …..I am new at this. Just for fun stuff. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It would help if we knew what format you planed on ending up with and what devices (computer/ipod/phone) you would like to play it back on.....
To answer your second question... No your DV cam will capture audio in Stereo, not surround, a Dolby Pro Logic compatible AV Receiver may be able to interplote the center and rear channels but it certainly won't sound as good as a AC3 or DTS multi channel audio track.

Hey thanks for the help......sorry I forgot to mention what I was planning. My plans were to rip the audio to the computer (into wav) for occasionally listening and to have it worked out to play on the iPOD (in mp3). I have really got into the iPOD more....there is so many things you can do with it. It is so fun. Anyway, my computer has a 6.1 speaker system so I can enjoy the surround music when the DVD is not an option. I will then need to make a stereo version (from the DTS multi channel .wav) for the iPOD I guess, but that shouldn't be too difficult I imagine. By the way, thanks for the DV help too.....I really need to start playing with that stuff more. I have a few things recorded where the sound came out great. I just need to capture it to the computer and figure out the best possible way to maybe convert the DV video to something like .MOV (so I can do iPOD clips) and capture the sound for the iPOD. I had a friends band thats I recorded and it came out great....the set was a little over a half hour and the DVD capture was like 6 GBs if I remember....WOW. Just curious. Thanks

For DTS to MP3 i would use eac3to (eac3to thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125966)) to decode the audio track to a WAV file, then LAME (look at razorlame as a gui) to convert the wav to a mp3......
To convert DV to ipod give AVIDemux a go, it has ipod profiles and will allow you to apply all sort's of filters.
With DV you will most likely want to apply a deinterlace filter (try yadiff) before resizing the video, the results should look pretty good.

I really appreciate all your help. I will have to try some of the stuff for sure. Thanks again.

I would be using MeGUI. First, you need to be able to playback the AC3/dts file with your system. The easiest way to accomplish this is to use a DirectShowFilter, so either use ffdshow or ac3filter (after installing one of these, you should be able to playback the ac3 file with any direct show player, e.g. Windows Media Player). Just make sure to
-set the Mixer in ffdshow to "Same as Input"
-set Output and Mixer to "AS IS" in the ac3filter configuration dialogue
to retain the 5.1 playback.
Now since you can just play the ac3 files, you don't need to convert them to wav or anything (wavs would be stupid because they just would consume more disk space without any quality gain).
Now start Megui and just drag + drop the ac3 file into the Audio Track input, choose any Lame mp3 preset (you'll probably want to use the one with the hightes bitrate), after choosing the preset click on Config and tick "Force Decoding with Direct Show". Now queue and start, a few seconds later you'll have a perfectly fine stereo mp3 to use on your ipod.
No fiddling around with wavs and remerging them, all installation and configuration procedures should be fairly simple.
