the articles on slashdot seemed pretty positive towards 4.1. I'll wait for some test dummies to give it a shot before I do :D

beware:
Known issues
Users of NVidia cards with the binary driver provided by NVidia might suffer from performance problems in window switching and resizing. We've made the NVidia engineers aware of those problems. However, no fixed NVidia driver has been released yet. You can find information on how to improve graphics performance on Techbase (http://techbase.kde.org/User:Lemma/GPU-Performance), although we ultimately have to rely on NVidia to fix their driver.

Yeah Nvidia is killing me.
The day i finally decided to ditch ATI in favor of them was the biggest mistake i made (got a Nvidia 8800gt) when i finally switched that was when ATI decided to release details on their drivers and improvement started to happen, meanwhile on the nvidia side the have virtually stopped supporting the opennv folks and have had minuscule improvements with each new driver they have released, nothing major that improves 2d support etc particularly necessary for kde 4, firefox, compiz, video playback (XvMc) and that weird hue color setting problem on video playback etc.

the ATi move was announced well before they actually did it.

NVIDIA makes trouble with 2.6.25/.26 kernel and KDE 4.x
I have a Driver-Patch installed, the original NVIDIA driver does not work.
No update from NVIDIA.
Although it is difficult at the beginning to develop OPEN SOURCE driver, not everything works fine, but the OPEN SOURCE strategy of ATI is the better way for the future.
