Pioneer dvd-rw & stuttering?

Ive been messing about all day trying to get a good burn from what appears to be perfectly good files, but everytime i burne to my dvd-rw disk the sound is all stuttery and clicky.

Has anyone else experienced this problem - or does anyone know what it might be?

Im running Windows XP and Recordnow Max (Ive also tried Nero with the same results)

Also has anyone tried DvD gear for burning - is it any good?

What have you burned? A movie-backup? An own made movie ?
What kind is the audio? AC3, LPCM, MPEG ?

What have you done with the VOB files?
Have you stripped anything, remuxed anything ?

Are you using DVD-RW disc or DVD-R (if you are using RW, you need to "clean" it first (i.e. format) - this option should be available on any burning software)

Hi guys,

I got an e-mail from Derrow saying that someone else has complained out stuttering when using Powerdvd and a burned movie, but that when he actually used the dvd with WinDVD the problem went away.

I took a chance and burnt the DVD to a normal dvd-r (not rw) and tried it in my standalone player and it works fine no problems.

I also then went back to my DVD-RW and ripped one of the files that was stuttering back to my hard drive, and it worked fine from there.

It must be something to do with the way in which PowerDVD is working. I wish i had tried WinDVD two days ago - it would have solved alot of heartache!!

One of the other reasons thought i thought it wasnt the software was becuase i used two toher players - with the same results. One was Windows Media Player (XP) and the other mmm acutally i cant remember what it was - some small third party program i had used just for testing. (sorry i know that doesnt help much!)
When i tried both i got stuttering too - and in Media player it was really awful.

What made the problem more difficult was that when i put in a normal dvd all players played perfectly. I still dont quite see what the issue is - somewhere along the line some players must just not like playing home burnt movies??!!??

I have WinDVD somewhere so im going to install it and see what happens.

I should say of course, before anyone jumps, in that i dont have a player that supports dvd-rw just dvd-r, although if anyone knows how to get my Apex 600 A to read them then please please drop me a line.

I got the same problem just about 3 weeks ago. But it was WinDVD that was having a problem when I played a movie, and once I use PowerDVDXP the movie worked fine. So it's kinda vice versa than yours.

I strongly belive now it's related to the DVD-ROM. I just send back a LG DVD-ROM (DRD8160B) which claims to read DVD-R and DVD-RW on the shipping box.
Inserting a DVD-RW leads the drive to start a chopper and it sounds like, well hard to say for me in english, something scratching over the disc. During this the drive is spinning up and down. As expected this drive plays the content only stuttering.
Tried the same DVD-RW in a Pioneer 104 (really old one, 2 years old lots of play and rip hours) and it plays absolutely fine.

I think Pioneer has a big competitve advantage when it comes to DVD-RW playback. I plan to stick a Pioneer drive in my standalone as well (Raite) and replace the old chopper by a new one, har, har...

Nice deduction Watson but that wouldnt explain why when it plays fine when we use different software.

Surely if it was the hardware all software would fail to work?

... different (Player) caching procedure e.g. could make quit a difference while drive access even with system API used for access.
