Here's a very handy app that I normally compile from source on Linux, but the Win32 port works very well.
It is stable, easy to use and simple.
Check it out DeVeDe for Windows v3.9 (http://www.majorsilence.com/devede/)
Cheers,

I've used this with Ubuntu Hardy & on all 3 occasions(I'm a new Linux user, dual boot with XP) the output was very undersized, between 2-3GB even when I adjusted the bitrate. Any advice re encoders suitable for Ubuntu would be appreciated.
Cheers!

I have found undersizing a problem bith with DeVeDe and Avidemux, since my move to GNU/Linux.
As far as a satisfactory solution is concerned I have not found one using native Linux applications.
However, if you install Wine, then install Avisynth and ffdshow under Wine, HC works flawlessly, as does the free edition of Muxman.
For converting footage to DVD, I tend to use Avidemux to save the audio to PCM WAV, Aften to encode it, HC for the video and author with Muxman.
It is a pity, because otherwise DeVeDe is a fine automated application.
EDIT - hmmm.. on that note, since HC, batchmux and muxman all work in Wine, I wonder if FAVC will? I shall have to try that out at the weekend.

Thanks for the info, would be very interested to hear back from you if FAVC will or will not work in Wine.

Doesn't work :(
Even with the Windows version of Mono installed under Wine, the FAVC executable won't run.
Oh well.
Thanks for the info Nick.

I know that wg did it already without success (using Ubuntu distribution)... anyway, may you give a try to AVStoDVD?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the undersizing issue it is still there. I've contacted the author regarding this and couple of other issues as well and he's working on it. In the meantime I use online video size calculator from videohelp and assign the bitrate manually.
I know I can run HC and other apps, but I tend not to use wine under Linux at all. Also, just the fact that this is almost fully automated app, I reckon I can put up with few bugs.
FAVC under linux would be great !!!

No luck with AVStoDVD either. The installer runs fine but the main executable doesn't run at all :(

:(
Thanks for the feedback anyway. Could be a problem of VB runtime library not installed in Wine?
