View Full Version : Problems With "THE EYE" DVD

I've been trying to back up The Eye DVD with no success to date. I've searched this forum and found no mention of this so I thought I'd start a new thread.
To date I've used Shrink, DVD Decryptor, an older, then the latest version of Slysofts DVD Fab, and RipIt4Me. All of them failed. When Fab crashed (perhaps the older version) it made my PC insane. Whenever I tried to type in a Word document it opened up a new Word window. When I tried to type in a browser box, it opened up the Run window. All was fine upon reboot. But it scared the hell out of me since nothing like that had ever happened before.
In over 1500 rips I've never met a disk I could not beat so this one bugs me. Is it some new form of copy protection? It's not a Sony disk... it's Paramount/Lionsgate. Any ideas how to beat it?
Thanks!

Try the latest version of DVDFab HD Decrypter. If it doesn't work, you may have a bad disc although it sounds like something else is going on with your pc. I had no problems with this one R1.

Thanks for responding. I was using the latest beta version DVD Fab... v5.0.5.8
As for the disk quality, it plays fine. Maybe I'll run some tests on it.

Fab is giving me this error
Task_1 Failed! Error=102(VTS_01_4.VOB 636682240 2048)
Process failed!

102 DVD_Error_ReadFile
It cannot read the file.
Try giving the disc and your laser lens a real good cleaning.
When you say it plays fine, do you mean on your standalone player or on the pc?
Try playing that one vob.

Something's radically wrong. When I went to do a test on Nero Speed, it could not find any DVD drive. I was going to try Decryptor to try and rip the same VOB but RipIt4Me also can't find the drive. Device manager says the drive's working fine. But "My Computer" shows no DVD in the drive. Think it's time to uninstall the drive and reboot.
And what I meant the disk played fine... that was on a stand alone player.

Hi!the latest version of Slysofts DVD FabI'm pretty sure that the publishers of AnyDVD (Slysoft) and DVDFab etal (Fengtao Software) haven't merged their two companies ;>
In over 1500 rips I've never met a disk I could not beatSince you've invested more than $20,000 in purchased DVDs and their backup copies, can you please share with us how you store the originals versus the backups?
I've not read anywhere else of any "unbeatable" copy protection for this DVD release, so I'd share the speculation of "dialysis1" that the disc itself (poor mastering or otherwise) is problematic. I'd suggest you return the DVD to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement.
Is yours the R1 version?

I used AnyDVD to remove the protection and DVD Shrink with no re-compression to rip... no problems.

Thanks for responding. You're correct, of course. A mind is a terrible thing to... misplace.

I built a special climate controlled bunker in the backyard just for the originals. Its Faraday shielded even against EMP and its lead lining is sufficient to protect against even the most energetic cosmic rays… but I still worry about those occasional damn neutrinos damaging the data layer :-)

Yup... looks like it has to go back for another. And yes it's R1.

Go figure. I tried to rip another original The Eye DVD using the latest Fab and again Fab crashed... and again my DVD drive was not being recognized until I rebooted. I've dealt with some bad disks before... but never one that can apparently uninstall a DVD drive.
Any thoughts?

On the outside chance that the DVD has an autorun file on it, try holding down the "Shift" key, then put the DVD in your drive, and continue to hold the "Shift" key down until either your drive light turns off or you see the DVD name appear in your open Explorer window...

If it was a problem with the software, then everyone would be having problems. The problem is either your disc or your PC.
