Streaming AC3 ... is it possible?

Hi,

I'm trying to stream surround from a web page.

I've had good success with AAC which streams well, and can be easily decoded by Quicktime.

I thought that I would get similar results for AC3 files .... but Quicktime (inside firefox) just hangs and eventually displays a big "?" on top of the Quicktime icon.

Specifically, I want to stream the AC3 file straight from a computer directly to an AV receiver via a digital connection (let the AV receiver do the hard work).

Can anyone confirm if this is possible / not possible?

I don't know about specific software, but AC3 itself uses independent frames, so it should be possible.

actually ... I just confirmed it is possible. I copy-pasted the URL directly into Quicktime and VLC and it worked in both.

why its not working for Quicktime embedded in the browser is what I cant work out ....
