View Full Version : Still no E-AC3 support in ffdshow tryouts beta5

ffdshow_beta5 doesn't support E-AC3 decoding out of the box. Has anyone managed to compile a recent ffdshow tryouts build with the Google Summer of Code E-AC3 decoder? If so, could you please post the compiled files?
Thanks!

Have you tested it? I have clsid's beta5 build, and I can play E-AC3 fine. I think.

Yes, I've tested just about every build, including beta5. They won't play E-AC3. Check your active filters in MPC to see which directshow filter is decoding audio, maybe Nero or Sonic are decoding it for you.

Just tested this myself and I was saddened when I saw that it didn't work. :\

Err... can you split off a piece of an E-AC3 and upload it so I can test it? I'm not 100% sure my files are really E-AC3, but they're playing fine in MPC-HC... with the AC3 parser filter and ffdshow's audio decoder.

ffdshow does not support E-AC3 decoding, just regular AC3.

If they're from Blu-Ray discs, it's likely the splitter you're using is passing the AC-3 to the decoder, as Blu-Ray movies have AC-3 audio within the E-AC3 files.

Do you know if/when it will?

For that to happen, ffdshow needs to implement a working genuine 24-bit output that the E-AC3 decoder can then use. It is a lot of work, however, so it won't happen anytime soon. Google SoC 2009 anyone?

Sorry to bump. If ffdshow doesn't have genuine 24-bit output, why is there an option to output 24-bit audio on the Output panel?

It can't decode 24-bit E-AC3. That doesn't mean it can't output in 24-bit, though. Note that it's just upconverting to 24-bit; quality won't be (much) better.

Judging by what you said, seems like E-AC3 streams can be 16-bit. Is proper decoding working for those? If so, couldn't support for it be added?
