View Full Version : What could affect the Subtitle color in DVD?

pgcedit

In Title 1, I look at the Sub-picture color table pickup:

When I play that DVD, the color of the subtitle is yellow and its border is black.

I "Copy all" and "Paste all" in my new DVD structure, but when I play it, the subtitle is in black and its border is blue.

How come is that? Is there any hidden place that I can modify to make the subtitle to be yellow with black border without the need to edit the Sub-picture color table (leave it intact)?

Thank you.

What tool have you used to produce your new DVD structure?

Obviously, the subpic streams have changed. You can reassign the original subpic color indexes with DVDSubEdit, but IMO it is easier to change the colors in PgcEdit.

@jamewoong

Hi!

If I remember correctly ("r0lZ", please correct me if I'm wrong)
, as an alternative to PGCEdit, you can also use IFOEdit as follows:

- Open the movie original .IFO (most likely "VTS_01_0.IFO") in IfoEdit.

- Select "VTS_PGCITI" >> VTS_PGC_1"

- Choose "Subtitle Color" >> "Copy Colors From This PGC".

- Open your edited version of the .IFO.

- Select "VTS_PGCITI" >> VTS_PGC_1"

- Choose "Subtitle Color" >> "Paste Colors Into This PGC".

- Save the .IFO and .BUP (make backups beforehand, just in case).

If the DVD has more than one title with subs, repeat the same procedure for the other .IFOs

That's right, but that method will give exactly the same results than using PgcEdit, in a more difficult way. And you can't easily modify the colors manually.
According to jamewoong, copying and pasting the CLUT doesn't give the good result, so using IfoEdit will not help anyway.

Maybe the colourscheme is not quite right. Check that.

Probably you use the copied CLUT with subtitles created independently from that first disc. They might use different color scheme (mapped to different color numbers in CLUT). While it's easier to edit CLUT (change black to yellow and blue to black in your case), it's not very good in case there are BOVs or other sub streams mapped to those old colors. Looks like DVDSubEdit can do it apart from editing CLUT (stored in ifo's), look into manual' chapter 2.4 'Changing the colors indexes into the CLUT'.
