So I am trying to backup Madagascar (that cartoon movie with the animals and Ben Stiller) so when the kids ruin it, I will have another copy for them, but for whatever reason, DVD Shrink cannot do it. Says something about it being protected when it is about 66% done loading the disk. Any ideas? I have never had this problem before.

Read some of the other post's about particular movies, there are many different programs you could try, DVD Shrink stopped development over 3 years ago, things have changed since then and it can no longer backup certain newer titles, due to various types of protection....
You could try RipIt4Me, DVD Decryptor, mencoder, anyDVD... the list goes on!

You could try RipIt4Me, DVD Decryptor, mencoder, anyDVD... the list goes on!Actually, "Madagascar", a Dreamworks release, was the first DVD for which "RipGuard" copy protection was used - and it actually "fooled" the venerable DVD Decrypter into appearing to generate a successful rip - when, in fact, such a rip had to be subsequently "cleaned up" by using VOBBlanker.
On the other hand, RipIt4Me (discontinued development) or any current ripping program can properly process "Madagascar...

DVDFab HD Decrypter will work as well.
Rather than make a backup copy for when the kids ruin the original, you might consider giving them a copy and storing the original away.

Also a DVD with a huge fake VIDEO_TS.VOB file. Around 800MB if I remember it right.
