A few days ago I was trying to author a simple hd dvd disc with Scenarist ACA. The video was 720p , converted from mkv file in a following order :
I opened avs script in a Virtualdub, then I recorded a avi file with no resolution change using some lossless huff codec.

The avi file was converted to vc-1 file with Sonic Cinevision 2.02 (pulldown to 59,94 fps). I left AC3 sound without any changes.
Both video and audio files were accepted by Sonic Scenarist ACA. I created hd dvd structure on my hard disc, and recorded it with nero using udf 2.5 file format. The disc is well played in a computer (powerdvd 7.2) but it is not recognized by my Toshiba HD DVD player (error 5556 - not a dvd format ?/

Any clues ?

You most likely used a +R or +RW. That won't work. Just use a -R or -RW and you will see it will work. Personally I find this a huge bug that Toshiba should have fixed, but who cares anymore ...
