Sorry if the LONG post is a rehash of something that's already been covered. I've been doing some reading, but don't have much more time to lurk and search today, so I'm resorting to *GASP* asking a question on the forum!
Anyway, as the subject implies, I want to rip the main movie only from BD disks.
Is this possible? I've gotten in to the habit of ripping all of my DVD's to my media server. I use dvdfab platinum to rip just the movie portion for space savings, to allow me to have my library "on demand". This is no issue, old news.
However, I've recently gotten a PS3, and have already ripped a BD to iso. It's transferring over the network now. I expect that I should be able to mount the iso and watch it in powerdvd. But some of the movies in my collection are close to 50 gig (ie, across the universe - approx 48 gb)
I remember when I first started ripping DVD's I found great info (i think it was here, but it might have been on what was then vcdhelp.com) on using ifo edit to rebuild the dvd structure of the disc to accomplish just this. Eventually tools like DVD Decrypter and DVDFab decrypter made this task (and the conversion from a dvd file structure on the hard drive to an iso) trivial.
I don't expect that the process is trivial yet for bd's, but I wasn't scared of ifo edit, so I'm not scared to try my hand on any new tools that can make this happen for me.
Any advice on what I tools I can use to work with my iso's?
I was thinking I could probably use ANYDVD HD or DVDFab Decrypter HD to get the image dumped down to the hard drive so it mimics the BD disk folder structure on the hard disk. But I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to ripping the main movie only. I wouldn't even want the menus, really. Just the main movie and the main audio track as an iso. (probably the compressed tracks, as opposed to the pcm tracks, unless the disk only has pcm - maybe down the road I'd see if I could find a way to compress the pcm data to the new compressed hd formats)
This way, I can just mount the image, open in powerdvd and the movie plays without menus, fbi screens, etc...
Sorry if I'm long winded or have made any comments that are obviously wrong or stupid (to those of you who already know, that is)
