View Full Version : Rip and reauthor just main movie?

Sorry if the LONG post is a rehash of something that's already been covered. I've been doing some reading, but don't have much more time to lurk and search today, so I'm resorting to *GASP* asking a question on the forum!

Anyway, as the subject implies, I want to rip the main movie only from BD disks.

Is this possible? I've gotten in to the habit of ripping all of my DVD's to my media server. I use dvdfab platinum to rip just the movie portion for space savings, to allow me to have my library "on demand". This is no issue, old news.

However, I've recently gotten a PS3, and have already ripped a BD to iso. It's transferring over the network now. I expect that I should be able to mount the iso and watch it in powerdvd. But some of the movies in my collection are close to 50 gig (ie, across the universe - approx 48 gb)

I remember when I first started ripping DVD's I found great info (i think it was here, but it might have been on what was then vcdhelp.com) on using ifo edit to rebuild the dvd structure of the disc to accomplish just this. Eventually tools like DVD Decrypter and DVDFab decrypter made this task (and the conversion from a dvd file structure on the hard drive to an iso) trivial.

I don't expect that the process is trivial yet for bd's, but I wasn't scared of ifo edit, so I'm not scared to try my hand on any new tools that can make this happen for me.

Any advice on what I tools I can use to work with my iso's?

I was thinking I could probably use ANYDVD HD or DVDFab Decrypter HD to get the image dumped down to the hard drive so it mimics the BD disk folder structure on the hard disk. But I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to ripping the main movie only. I wouldn't even want the menus, really. Just the main movie and the main audio track as an iso. (probably the compressed tracks, as opposed to the pcm tracks, unless the disk only has pcm - maybe down the road I'd see if I could find a way to compress the pcm data to the new compressed hd formats)

This way, I can just mount the image, open in powerdvd and the movie plays without menus, fbi screens, etc...

Sorry if I'm long winded or have made any comments that are obviously wrong or stupid (to those of you who already know, that is)

I have written a pretty easy guide, it may be a bit out of date at this point. Check it out in my signature.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm currently ripping the disk files out of the Iso I created via anydvd HD. Quick question, if you don't mind - why wasn't I able to just mount the iso with daemon tools and watch it in poweDVD? It didn't work. In fact, anydvd sees the mounted image as a valid disk and allows me to rip the files out, but when the iso is mounted, powerdvd doesn't even see a disk in the drive. Neither does windows, actually, so I was surprised to see that anydvd recognized it and let me rip the files. I would have expected mount->play to work, especially with anydvd hd running. I read somewhere today that the specific disk I made an image of was known to have some issues, it's across the universe.

Any ideas?

PS - it might be relevant that I ripped with the dd command from linux on my PS3?

thanks for the reply quadcoreHD but I'm not sure I understand

I have an image in ISO format on the hard drive that I've mounted with daemon tools, so I don't see how setting the file system to UDF 2.5 in imgburn would have any effect?

Are you saying that I should create a new image with Imgburn?

Anyway the anydvd process worked fine and I can play the main movie file in powerdvd but the playback is real choppy

I'm actually driving now and when I get home I'm going to look in to fixing that

But if anyone has some adviceidlove to hear it

Yes, try creating the image with ImgBurn
