I have looked at eac3to and the command line version looks pretty straightforward, emphasis on *looks*. I tried both the GYUs and the first one would not select my input file and the second overwhelmed me with options.

I eventually resorted to xport for a 640 AC3 stream and then recoded to 384 and updated the MKV container.

However, I understand that eac3to should be able to do just this - rip and convert at the same time. However, I do not meet some of the requirements such as Nero 7 (I have 8 and am not about to downgrade), no Sonic (not working with DTS, should not matter).

For the heck of it I cannot figure out the correct command line. I tried something along the lines as simple as this:

eac3to input.mts 2: test.ac3

It came back and indicated that this was not an allowed audio conversion. Well, I am not even trying to convert audio at this point but merely to demux it.

What would be the right syntax? What would be the correct syntax to convert it to 384 AC3?

I managed to get it to demultiplex the video into an mkv container and spit out all the audio files but this is not really what I want.

Use the simple GUI for eac3to.
But ist has a problem with special characters. You can watch it in the dos window. Rename the files.

And there is a GUI bug with the rate param:

example 448 kbps
-> you must insert a separating space before it in the dos window.

Start here and see if you can figure it out.
