View Full Version : Splitting WMV file

Short version, is there a program that will effectively take an WMV I've made and break it up into nice little chunks?

I hope you all don't mind me picking your big-ol brains here, but I've got a cheap portable "media" player that can only play movies if they are WMV. Fair enough, except that the fastward function sucks if you want to fast forward more than 5 minutes. So my solution is to break up what I'm watching into 5-10 minute segments. So far my attempts to do so pre-encoding have succeeded, but batch processing of WMVs doesn't work for me yet using the MS's WMV Encoder SDK.

I'm habitually cheap, so if there were free programs to do this I'd be ecstatic.

AsfBin (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/AsfBin), for all your ASF needs :)

Hi!

Are you sure the problem lies with your player? When you created the .WMV files, did you index them?

Yeah, it's the player. I payed $20 for a portable media player on clearance. It was worth that price.

Thanks for the tips. This place is great.

Okay, I'm gonna try the indexing thing just for kicks. Turns out that, no, I didn't index the file. Who knew?

The problem is I don't have a good wmv encoder. I mean microsoft's is fine if I'm doing one file at a time, but I need a batch encoder. Any tips? I've found the Prism encoder and it supports batches with a number of options, but it's quality sucks.

How about first seeing whether indexing ONE file is what's need?
