I shot a project in 1080i 50i HDV. I want a simple way to achieve a telecine-look. How best should I approach deinterlacing? Will simply deinterlacing to 25p provide a decent cine-look? Should I deinterlace before editing or on export - what's the best way? I have the option of using Vegas 8 - does that include Cineform 24p conversion? (Not sure.) Appreciate any other suggestions about what to do with my footage.

just deinterlace it.

but ensure to use a good deinterlacer.

have you shot your footage with 1/50 sec shutter?
if you didn't, your 25p fottage will look very strobing.

I did shoot at 1/50, unless that was too bright - then I tried to shoot at a multiple of 50 (1/100, 1/150 etc.). Thanks! We'll see if it worked. What are your favorite deinterlacers?

depends on what your needs are. if you need speed try yadifmod(edeint=leakkerneldeint(threshold=0))
if you need pure quality try: mcbob().selecteven() or maybe dideé's newest creation: tempgauss() (but I didn't try it until noe)
or a little bit faster: yadifmod(edeint=nnedi())

Have a look into these samples (http://www.mediafire.com/?wm9mxjlpn2d).

It's not at all a thorough comparison, just a case example quickly thrown together during lunchbreak.

Still it's interesting, giving an idea of a general problem, and how different deinterlacing methods handle it ... or don't. ;)

Any opinion of the deinterlacing quality in Final Cut HD? Also, should I edit the whole project and then deinterlace at the end? Thank you!
