View Full Version : DVD "Red Sun" decrypting problems

Firstly, I've tried decrypting 2 different discs. I've used DVD shrink and I get CRC errors and I've used DVDFab Decrypter Platinum and it errors out at 33.43% with either disc. I've tried 3 different burners, a pioneer, benq, and a liteon. The first disc seemed to need cleaning so I cleaned it but still the same problem. So I got another original thinking it may just be a bad scratch, but same problems decrypting. This is an older release so the possibility that it has some wierd form of protection would surprise me but I'm open to suggestions. And the fact that I haven't seen anything that DVDFab can't crack, this is puzzling. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum. You could also try RipIt4Me.

Hi!
If you're referring to the Charlie Bronson movie, I'm sure that, as you speculated, the R1 1997 DVD release contains no special copy protection. In light of your statement that you've tried ripping two different originals, this suggests that your reader/burner may be problematic.
Try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10 US.
Have you had previous ripping success with this same hardware?
If you try ripping a different commercial DVD now, are you successful?

2 discs tested on 3 drives, it's likely a software problem.

Sorry, missed the part about "I've tried 3 different burners, a pioneer, benq, and a liteon."
Based on that, I'd sooner speculate that there was a bad pressing or, if they were not purchased in new, unused condition, they are damaged beyond repair.
However, I'd still ask "getting2me":
Have you had previous ripping success with this same hardware?
If you try ripping a different commercial DVD now, are you successful?

yes to all.....I actually own a computer store and have tried ripping it on 3 different machines, 1 with XP64, xp pro, and vista ultimate(which I hate)......just tried it using ripit4me and it suggested I clean the disc but as I mentioned before I had cleaned the other disc and ran into the same problem. Never have any problems ripping other things unless it is in fact a scratched disc. That's why I keep different brand burners, if one has CRC errors, usually one of the others cuts right thru....I'll try cleaning this one and try again, maybe the scratch or whatever it is isn't quite as bad the other one. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the replies.

cleaned it and tried again....same result......ripit4me says the cells that can't be ripped aren't protected and that it may just be a dirty or scratched disc....as y'all said earlier, must just be a bad pressing and I happened to get 2 discs out of the batch.......thanks for all the suggestions

I really doubt that AnyDVD is going to resolve anything regarding this very old DVD release. As I stated in my initial post to this thread, the R1 1997 DVD release contains no special copy protection...

In that case, with the latest version of AnyDVD running in the background, scan the disc with Nero DiscSpeed (http://www.cdspeed2000.com).

@linx05In that case, with the latest version of AnyDVD running in the background, scan the disc with Nero DiscSpeed.Forgive me for not following your logic but, how will that make the DVD copyable?
I could sooner see suggesting using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4, set to "No retries" on read errors...

It obviously won't setarip_old. But it will determine if and where the errors are. With that being said, with AnyDVD in the background he can then use the fantastic and free IsoPuzzle (http://www.geocities.com/marsoupilamis/DocEnglish.htm) to rip it.

It couldn't hurt could it? it may just work, it may not, never know till you try.
If it doesn't work then he wasted all of 30 mins, right? and if it does work well he can move onto the next disc.
