View Full Version : New AVI2SVCD option in 1.0.6

I'm trying to feed AVI2SVCD with NTSC Mpeg file under 4GB via avisynth and filename.avs. Actual mpeg is 720x480 at 8mb CBR and uncompressed pcm @44Khz, 224Kb.
It takes it, but comes back with an error:
"Could Not get AudioStream: filename.avs Errorcode: -2147205"
As per DVD2SVCD readme, it should be able to handle pcm, mp3,ac3.
What should be parameters for AVI audio, such as type and bitrate?
Any way that I can serve mpegs to DVD2SVCD without converting to DV or creating DVDvolume?
Any good ideas out there?

I've been working on this most of today. Will publish benchmarks, findings soon. Currently PCM has worked for me. What is your DV-codec your using Sony, Adaptec, MS, Canopus, Mainconcept? type 1 or type 2? When I did mp3 the resulting mpa (mp2) audio was whacked..sounded like it speed up.

It's not DV files, but Mpeg-2 files(made by Dazzle DVCII), that I'm trying to run by the way of frameserving.
Anyhow, I've got some results:
if I frameserve dazzle_built_file.mpg with Virtualdub1.4.8 with separate audio as filename.wav, then AVI2SVCD does take it and starts processing. But DVD2SVCD will just quit (not crushing or page fault)
upon processing audio.
Based on my limited tests, AVI2SVCD takes many DIVX files, which is great. So if time is not an issue, then converting mpeg2 to mpeg4 and using AVI2SVCD could be a solution ...But the issue is resulting quality.

Why not just load an ifo file, go into the vob file selection window (...), delete the vobs in the list and load the mpeg2 file you want converted. Remember to select Audio Track 1 before hitting go.

Thank you Dvd2svcd,
But there are mixed and interesting results on this approach.
- Just loading any valid vts_0x.ifo from any DVD, does let you add mpeg files, but pressing go will not get you further then DVD2AVI, which is not executing due to empty -IF=[ option.
- But sometimes (1 out of 10)it will start (could not see why yet), then -
------------------------
Audio1 delay: -362 ms
Audio stream 1 was not found!
Audio extraction finished.
-------------------------
does encoding and fail to bbmpeg_mux since there no audio file.
Can you recomend any specific .ifo files or it's just me failing somewhere.

Copy an ifo file into the same folder as where you have your mpeg2 file.
Let's say the ifo name is
vts_01_0.ifo Then rename your mpg file to
vts_01_1.vob
Simple as that.

Thanks, Everything ingenious is simple!
I've tested 400mb mpeg2(renamed to vts_01_1.vob)and it's working.
Will do large files - above 4GBs very soon.
Interesting, that after many failed attemps with different .ifo(all with multiple AC3 tracks), I just created (authored) DVDvolume from sample mpeg2 with one chapter and used vts_01_0.ifo from it to successfully load to DVD2SVCD.
Thus, based on my experience, it's better to have an .ifo with single 2ch pcm track to do mpeg2 to SVCD conversion.

Could you please tell me how to rename a mpeg2 file to vob file. I use winXP PRO. I could not change ext of the file. Example myfile.mpeg ----> vts01.vob.mpeg. I can change it to vts01.vob
Thank you very much in advance

newfaces are you kidding? It's very basic Windows operation. It's been the same way since Win 3.0.
Right click on the file. This will bring up a menu. One of the items is rename. Go to it and it will change the file name to blue. You just type the filename you want.
If you cannot see the filename extension then go to the directory with no files highlighted click on tools->folder options. Then click on the view tab uncheck hide extensions for know file types.
Maybe you should get a Windows book. A very good series is the Windows for Dummies (no slight intended that is the name of the books).
When you change the name of a file from a known type to an unknown type(mpg to vob) a window will popup asking if you are sure you want to do this. Say yes.

Thank you so much Mark. In my computer file ext is hide.
And one more question please !!!
I have trouble in convert my AVI files (this files were captured from my Sony DV camcorder into harddish by Pinnacle DV 300) to SVCD with DVD2SVCD, CCE always crashs. But I can convert my AVI files with CCE v 2.64 by ifself(I means not use CCE throught DVD2SVCD). So after I convert Avi files to MPEG files, can I use the above method to make SVCD by DVD2SVCD.
Thank you very much !!

Try this if it doesn't work start a new post in the basics forum.
Officially DVD2SVCD does not work with CCE 2.64. It only officially works with 2.62 or 2.5.
Also if you use CCE 2.62 or 2.64 you must have safe mode checked on the encoder tab. It will not work unless you do that.
Most people use CCE 2.5 in regular mode as it doesn't need safe mode.
So step 1. Make sure you have "Safe Mode" Checked
Step 2. Get CCE 2.62 or 2.50.
Step 3. Start a new post in basics and make sure to include your DVD2SVCD_Log.txt file cut and pasted into the post.

Thank you for your help Mark !!!
I tried all things you told me. But it crashes every time when CCE started. So I used CCE v2.64 to convert my AVI file to mpeg2 file(MPEG2: program stream). Then I did the method above(Copy an ifo file into the same folder as where you have your mpeg2 file.
Let's say the ifo name is
vts_01_0.ifo Then rename your mpg file to
vts_01_1.vob )
And it worked very good. But only one error is audio out-of synch. I checked mpeg2 file by playing in WinDVD it good, audio not out-of synch.
I started all over again 3 times. And they happened all the same error
I will send the log-file later when I go home. Sorry about that, I am at work now.
Any help or suggestion !!!!
Thank you very much in advance
