Interlaced or Progressive

I have a DVD source, when I use Bitrate Viewer to scan one of the .VOB files it tells me the source is Progressive. When I process the DVD with DVD-RB and HCenc I see in the HCenc window that it is processing it as interlaced. I have HCenc set to auto detect the source and decide the scan method. Who to believe HCenc or Bitrate Viewer?

separate fields and step through it in vdub, or avsedit.
