I read somewhere here that it was not a good idea to use USB external burners. Before I read this I had just purchased an LG GSA-E60L 20x USB external burner. So far it is working perfectly burning many single layer and one double layer disks. All these disks play back flawlessly on my stand alone player. Should I be worried in the future or should I not worry because it appears to be decrypting, burning and playing just fine (and fast too).

I can't imagine why a USB external burner would be bad. Maybe if it can't transfer the data fast enough while burning, that could lead to a problem if the buffer emptied... but other than that, I don't see why. If it's USB2.0, it should be able to transfer data fast enough. Then again, I'm no expert in this field. All DVDs will deteriorate eventually with time, especially DVD-R and DVD+R.
