View Full Version : Divx encoding for ps3
i have some divx files with ac3 audio and it wont to play back on my ps3
when i transfer it over it says its unsupported
is there anyway i can re-encode with the same quality, resolution etc but with a more compatible version of the codec
ive tried using autogk and "maintain source audio" but the thing just keeps on resizing the resolution and when i try and force it to use a minimum/fixed width it changes the aspect ratio

its not the ac3 audio that is not supported. It is the vc-1 Video. It needs to be converted to h264. Im not sure how to do this yet. This is one of my problems at the moment.

I could be wrong, but DivX is neither VC-1 nor h264...
@Sem: You could try using VirtualDub, there is an option "direct stream copy" for video and/or audio (so that works without quality loss). Also you might first want to test the file without audio just to test if the video stream is ok.

Sem, currently the PS3 doesn't support DivX files with b-frames in them, that's why it errors out for you. Me and blaz came to this conclusion when adding a PS3 preset to my divxenc script for Linux. If you re-encode without b-frames then I expect the files to work

I have some XviD encodes with 2 b-frames (encoded for my SA-DVD, which don't support 3 b-frames) and these files play fine in my PS3.
So PS3 should support b-Frames

Files need to be within 'Divx Home Theater' specification. no Qpel, no GMC, no custom quant.
