View Full Version : X264 - no-dct-decimate and no-fast-pskip
What is the current opinion about these 2 options in terms of quality/speed tradeoff?
I usually use MeGUI slowest profile but am wondering if these options are generally considered good to keep activated or are the quality gains negligible?

I don't personally use no-dct-decimate, as I've read mixed reports on it's speed/quality trade-off. no-fast-pskip is a no-brainer for 2-pass encoding though. :)

--no-fast-pskip can be kind of wasteful on sources with lots of static areas, especially cartoons. With AQ, I doubt fast pskip produces much in terms of artifacts.
So it seems that both of these options can be safely turned off. You gain encoding speed and efficiency, with only a slight possibility of visual quality loss now.
