Err, I didn't know where to post this..

I'm thinking about getting a camcorder soon, and I'm wondering which kind would give the best performance/quality, and I'm also wondering how would you go about getting the footage off the camcorder onto your computer when you're done filming?

I'm going to be editing the footage and I have a program called " Sony Vegas 5.0 " it has a "Sony Video Capture" Option, I'm not sure how this works but do you think it'd rip the footage in good quality? I'm going to be encoding it h264 in the end so I want to get the best looking quality out of it ><

- dv/hdv camcorders can get footage via firewire protocol in 1:1 'quality', there is however an option to use some sort of disk device for recording
- avchd records to some sort of memory cards, so probably usb2 connection
- then there is DVCPRO & DVCPRO HD, hvx200 will record on p2 cards (which are pcmcia compatible)
- my home-use sony will record DVD compatible mpeg2 on build-in disk, then usb2 to get those to the computer....
ect.

various ways, depending on the camcorder
