View Full Version : OGG (OGM) Videos Subtitles Not Carrying Over With Conversion Software

I have several ogm files that have subtitles "in" them, that is, the videos don't have separate sub files, but the subtitles are embedded in the video.

The funny thing is they are not hardsubbed, so I have no idea how to covert the videos to mp4 videos and keeping the subtitles at the same time.

When I watch the videos with VLC player, I have to choose subtitle track under video options, which makes me think that they are not hardsubbed and I need to extract them. However, all the video conversion tools I use don't convert the subtitle track. (when I replay the newly converted video with vlc, there is no subtitle track to be found)

VLC player also tells me that the subtitle track is a subt file, Which confuses me because I thought they were called sub not subt.

Is there any program that allows me to convert the video subtitles and all? Or at least tell me of a program that extracts from ogg files. Thanks.

...which makes me think that they are not hardsubbed... (cough, cough) Rule 6 and Newbies "Announcement"?

Your subtitles are "muxed" into the OGM container. You need to extract/demux the subs out of the OGM container using VirtualDubMoD and then mux it again into the MP4 container of the converted video using MP4Box/YAMB.

These kind of questions have been asked and answered like hundreds of times before, so if you care to search the forum a bit, you'll find specifics of how to get this done.

(cough, cough) Rule 6?

No, I am not violating any forum rules because these videos are not illegal torrents or anything like that! I'm just looking for some help on subtitles jeez I've been looking around the internet for a month trying to figure out this problem!

If no one feels like helping me and instead just wants to declare forum rule this when I'm NOT violating any rules please ban me because I've almost given up on this problem.

I admit that I haven't searched the forum beyond page 10, and I have read some faqs and have tried to use VirtualDubMoD, but the faq only helps with vob files.

Instead of asking n00b questions, I'll try to understand the programs better, take longer to figure out how to use it ect. I admit I only tried to figure out how to use VirtualDubMoD for only 2 hours.

I also just wanted to point out that the majority of your faqs are not very noob friendly, and I had to research many words used in them. Sorry for this post I'm really sorry you can ban me if you want.
