If you've been following the "new and alternative codecs" thread, you've probably seen discussions of my long-delayed 1080p24 test clip (I'd love some feedback on some of my content questions!).

Some more details to on the project, and links to some QHD versions are here:

The content is from a Microsoft-funded shoot a few years back, and we have full rights to the video and audio, which we're making available under an extremely flexible license (you can do pretty much whatever you want as long as you offer credit). The production used both 1080i and 35mm cameras.

If the smaller versions above whet your whistle, I've got the full source for the 1080i30 one in 15 GB Torrent. It's a Lagarith encoded 8-bit 4:2:2 with 5.1 uncompressed audio.

There's several seeders for it at the moment, so if you're interested, get it while the getting's good!

And, again, I'd appreciate any and all feedback on what you'd like to see in the 24p encode.

Also, what decoders for interlaced H.264 do folks recommend? I've been surprised that most of the widely used ones (VLC, QuickTime) don't handle it.

coreavc, or MPC HC with DXVA enabled.

I'm surprised that the VLC version you tried does not handle interlaced h.264 content, as mbaff decoding was added to ffmpeg years ago. So the question is then what do you mean by "interlaced" decoding? Mbaff, paff, ivtc?

Btw, thank you for the test clip. Those "freely" usable HD clips are still quite rare.

VLC should handle most interlaced H.264 streams (both MBAFF and PAFF), but you'll need to switch deinterlacing on manually. The same applies to all interlaced sources, AFAIK. Or are you having decoding problems with some specific file?

Thanks for the 30i clip, got it down allready.

if you are expecting something like: 'A lot of grain, also a lot of high motion scenes and bunch of water', then i'am pretty sure that is the wrong question.

Yeah, I've only got so much rights-cleared 35mm footage :).

I'm still hoping for feedback on the credits and opening motion graphics part of the project, though. What's an appropriate proportion of credits? What text size? What's an interesting challenge for the opening motion graphics?

something that looks like matrix opening?
What's an appropriate proportion of credits?
i guess that would be nonlinear, depending on the lenght of the movie, if it is short movie (say around 10 minutes), then one could take ED as an example and just scale the lengths in the linear fashion.
What text size?no idea.
