There is soft, normal and sharp bicubic.....

Which one to use?

Sharp bicubic is best, right?

Well then, why not always choose it? Why is it not recommended as the default choice then?

Could someone explain the difference upside/downside with the different settings? and which one to use when?

the diffrent scaling technics used differe in the way they work.
(I dont know the technical data or the mathematical)
but if you use bilinear your movie will compress better but it will be more blurred.
so the easiest way I guess is that the information on the frame will have more in precise than bilinear and the things between are just less or more.
so if your going to fit something in lower space it will look better in the compression with bilinear but more blurred so I my self prefer Presice bicubic and higher the bitrate.
so if your going to say fit a movie on a 700 mb cd it will probebly look with less compression artifacts with bilinear than with Precise bicubic.
But now a days cds are so cheap so I would not go for blurry picture to save some cds.

Gknot automatically selects the best one, but of course it's up to you if you don't trust the programs 'opinion'.
