Hello all,

My goal is to have an avi with divx video and ac3 audio

I have a double problem on Vegas, trying to create this Avi :
- For video : I can't encode with Divx
- For audio : I can't export to AC3.

Here are the specs of my Vegas 8 project:
- Personal video, sources are tga sequences (actually it's a 3d animation).
- frame rate = 25
- field order = none
- pixel aspect ratio = 1
- Video format = divx.
- Image size : 1280x720
- As for the divx codec options, I just chose the "Video HD 720" preset, but I didn't touch the rest.

When I start the render, it reaches 100%, however, the output video is corrupted, it crash Windows Media Player and BsPlayer.
I would need the right options to make a good HD video without getting a corrupt video file.

Now: about the audio: my goal is to use a compressed format, with 5.1 surround sound.
First I try AC3: in the "audio" tab, I don't see any option to exporte the sound in the AVI to AC3.
So I choose "MPEG layer 3" instead, then I save my personalized template, and after that, the option for the audio codec returns on "PCM uncompressed Audio"!
There is an option to output an AC3 audio file from Vegas, but I would like the AC3 sound to be directly part of the AVI I want to create.
So vegas does not let me choese neither AC3 neither MP3, what can I do??

Yesterday, I even tried to render the video without sound, but I still got a corrupted avi file.

I need some help

Are you sure the output is corrupted? Try running GSpot over it and post the screenshot.

For the audio, try installing the AC3 ACM codec. I'm not sure if that will let you do it.

A better option might be to export to lossless (using ffdshow-tryouts' FFV1 or HuffYUV VfW encoder, and PCM WAV audio), and then encode with your preferred apps.

Hello Ranguvar and thanks for the help.
I didn't render an avi-divx-ac3 since your last post, so I cannot post a screenshot of Gspot yet, but I will do it next time.
For now, I have one more question: do you think I can render the divx without audio, the AC3 without video, and mix them afterward in another app?
Thanks
Gz

How about using DebugMode Frameserver (http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/) and frameserve your output to virtualdub.

It depends on whether Vegas works to encode the AC3 and DivX ;) I know it has the capability; it just depends on whether your odd error affects that too. If it works, yes.

hey Krisq, nice suggestion, could you show me a virtual dub tutorial, cause I'm a newbie with it :)
