Hi there,
I'm having trouble with some video file I encoded. I used GordianKnot+VirtualDubMod for the encoding and latest XviD as encoder. The audio is CBR Mp3 although the audio it's not the problem because I tried disabling it and the problems is still there.
When I open the avi file with VirtualDubMod and do a error check it says all the frames are ok, and I can see the video if I use the arrow keys. Now when I try some player for instance, WMPlayer or bsplayer ... I can't see a thing. I tried running MPEG4Modifier over the file but displays an error while loading the file "Invalid VOL." I think it was.
Thanks in advance, and excuse my bad english. bye.

Hi!
Please load the XviD-compressed .AVI into GSpot and post a screen capture back here...

@shibby44
While you're waiting for the moderators to determine whether they can allow your screen capture to be viewed, perhaps you can provide some more background information?:
1) Is the original source material a DVD?
2) If so, what is the Title and Region number?
3) Does your original source material play properly on your PC?
4) What software and procedures did you use to decrypt/rip it?

The original source is a DVD, it plays perfectly on the computer, also the disc has no scratches on it. I guess the DVD it's region 2.
I used, DVDDecrypter + DGIndex + GordianKnot + VirtualDubMod and Besweet to encode the audio.
The procedure is nothing special and went smoothly for other encodings. 2pass, no qpel, no packedbistream... using VirtualDubMod as encoder.
Besides, I can't see anything special on gspot's report but...
Thanks for your support.
I tried running MPEG4Modifier over the file but displays an error while loading the file "Invalid VOL." I think it was.
Do you have the latest version? It should have been fixed:
1.3.0 (2004-Dec-20):
Error checking is less strict (no more "No dummy N-VOP found for packed frame" and "Invalid VOL" errors)
Latest version: 1.3.2
If you don't want to wait, upload your image somewhere and post the link only.

I used the latest version of MPEG4Modifier downloaded from it's official website.

Does VLC play your video? It has built-in codecs, so it should.
What happens if you select Video - Direct Stream Copy and resave the file as a new file? Is it still unplayable (no video)?

@shibby44
If you believe you've converted the entire DVD, you would seem to have a problem, as GSpot indicates the file has a running time of only a little over 25 minutes.
I'm still speculating that the problem lies in your original rip. Again, what is the Title of your original DVD?

The title is Ergo Proxy, and it has several chapters. Each of them lasts 25'. I didn't convert the entire DVD.
Surprinsingly I can see the file OK with VLC, but I don't understand why. If I managed to encode it with my codecs, how come I can't play it with normal players... besides even GSpot says that it is a XviD file so I don't know what's going on.
If I do the Direct Stream copy thing nothing changes, it keeps the same in all the players except VLC.
Thanks for your answers.

I found the problem. It seems the DivX decoder was the troublemaker. When I updated to the last version of the product it activated "Decode generic mpeg-4 files" and that seemed to mess up the whole thing.
What I don't understand is why some chapters can be played using the generic decoder and others not, and besides, why some of them drop a "Invalid VOL" error on MPEG4Modifier's latest version if I encoded them using the same settings.
