Tried decrypting the film using DVDFab HDDecrypter and found that there's a read error in the first 5 minutes of decrypting. Disc is not the problem.
Also tried in RipIt4Me and get the same result, only it tries to rip the problem file after the rip is completed and needs to 're-rip some files.' It starts ripping and just ends up in a read error.

Try AnyDVD HD, but if you get the same error you probably have a bad disc. I have gotten brand new discs that have the same problem right out of the case. I've returned them for a replacement which usually resolves the issue.

Same thing with The Golden Compass.
When Ripit4me ask you to rip again answer no, keep on going
with the clean up, everything will be fine.

I used ripit4me for 27 dresses also but I had no problems. I did however have a problem with The Golden Compass

Hi hous,
Please try DVDFab 5.0.1.2 Beta to see the result:

Thanks!

@hous
The R1 version of "27 Dresses", a 2oth Century Fox release, contains no "special" or newer copy protection.
I readily made a perfect full disc rip using ONLY good ol' DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4...
Well, I gave AnyDVD a shot and had problems with that. I installled the latest DVDFab 5 and gave that a shot and it wouldn't even load the disc completely without reading errors. Suppose I'll try good ol' DVD Decrypter by itself once...
Letcha know how it turns out. Thanks guys!!

Perhaps you have a damaged disc. If so, you can return it to the store for an exchange.

I originally thought that maybe it was a bad copy so I went back and exchange it for a different copy and I was still getting the same results.
I wasn't able to get a rip using DVD Decrypter - it failed to read at about 65% on the VTS_3_1 file and it only got about 9% on the entire DVD.
I gave RipIt4Me a try again and it completed the rip, but once again it prompts to re-rip some of the files. I declined and continued withe the clean-up (as Big Barn suggested) and loaded into DVD Shrink and it seems to be working fine so far. I haven't yet completed a back-up and verified the copy, but I imagine it will likely be clean.
Let you know once I get a back-up completed.

So, the 2nd copy is bad or your drive has problems. :(

You might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your DVD reader/burner. Maxell makes one that sells for about $10 US...

hous, in the absence of a problem with your drive or system, I'd have to say the problem is the disc. AnyDVD has no issues with the Region 1 release of 27 Dresses.
If you've now had two discs with problems then where you purchased your discs may have received a batch of bad discs. I'd return it for another. You shouldn't be having this kind of trouble with this release.
