Mission:
Make video files with sounds from a single TV series DVD and cut it into episodes.
Programs at hand:
1. DVD Decrypter
2. DVD Shrink.
What else do l need?
I want it to play on VLC
I have searched for this, I am sure it's somewhere.
I looked into the guide Doom9 wrote extensively, but I fail at this.
So please if anyone can dumb things down as far as possible.
I'm not dumb but all this is new to me.

Well, I know how I would do it, but that's very relative to the
tools I have on hand and am familiar with. Assuming each episode
is in its own title, I would use CloneDVD2 to extract each episode
to separate folders and then use Adobe Premiere Elements to
convert each .VOB to .AVI.

thanks guys, I have spent some more time reading up on this.
I have added Auto G-knot and Handbreak to my arsenal.
Now the problem that I have is that the titles of a single episode are broken into three VOS files, and I can turn them into nice copies but they are separate files. Is there an easier way to do this or is there a program that will allow me to combine these files into a single streaming .avi?
Thanks again

I do this type of encoding all the time. Since I am still in the mist of decoding my whole 100+ Anime DVD collection, there is a lot of episodes to decode.

In DVD Decrypter, first in settings under IFO MODE make sure file splitting is set to AUTO (I prefer to work with only one .VOB file). Then in the main window switch to IFO mode.

Now depending on how they encoded the DVD, there is two ways of separating the episodes .

1) Each episode in its own title.

This is the easiest one to do, just select the title then output to a folder

Here is a screenshot showing each episode in it's own title.

2) All the episodes are in one title.

Harder, but only a little. Play the DVD in a DVD player and take note which chapters each episodes start and end at.

In DVD Decrypter select the main title, then in the chapter window only select the chapters for the Episode then output into a folder. Then only highlight the chapters for the next episode and save to a different folder (so you don't override the other episodes as it will have the same filename)

For this screenshot, my episodes use chapters 1-5 6-10 11-15 and 16-20

Once this is done you can now encode them to what ever format you want. Currently you will have .IFO and a .VOB file.

I hope this helps a little. If you want me to explaine the encoding to AVI, there is many ways to do it. I use Staxrip. If you are still stuck I'll write it for you.

You could also:

1. Ripping all files using DVDFab HD Decrypter or with DVD Decrypter in file mode
2. Opening files with DVD Shrink
3. Disabling split option in DVD Shrink preferences
4. Enabling Reauthor mode
5. Put every episode to the structure
6. Start with Backup

Using a output folder on another physical disk speeds up the processing. Now every episode is a single file.

Now the problem that I have is that the titles of a single episode are broken into three VOS files, and I can turn them into nice copies but they are separate files. Is there an easier way to do this or is there a program that will allow me to combine these files into a single streaming .avi?

StaxRip's 'Folder Batch' mode handles combining. DVD Decrypter has a option to create a single file without splitting. With the DVD Shrink method you get also single files, in StaxRip you would use the 'File Batch' mode to batch process everything.
