Hello...

From a friend:

this past saturday (april 5th) a really good friend of mine died in a motorcycle accident. we have been going through all the pictures we have of him and realized that there is only one picture of all of us on our bikes together. it was taken in front of our local hooters (ufortunantly its closed now) during a flag rising for POWs and MIAs. the picture was taken by a magazine called Free Wheelin which is also no longer in circulation where i live. i was able to get ahold of somebody at the magazine and they are looking through their old mags to find the issue with this picture.

what i need help with is that they cant get me a full size picture or the negative and the picture in the mag is small. what i was hoping is that there is somebody here who can make the picure larger without it being all pixelated.

Does anyone know any picture upscalers that are different, and better, from the rest? (in other words, not a normal bilinear/bicubic/Lanczos/etc. resize)

Maybe (and that's a big maybe) you could load the image in avisynth with imagesource, use a "normal" resize like spline36 or something like eedi or this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=136690), smooth it a bit with gradfun2db, sharpen with limitedsharpenfaster (to recover some detail), do some other corrections depending on the source and then downscale a bit (all that to enlarge and remove the pixelated look.

I'm not a pro at all for this, but that's the best I can suggest. Good luck!

If you post it, we will see what we can do. The best resizer so far is NNEDI, so we can see what that will do, and then go through a spatial cleaning as best as we can. There is only so much you can do with spatial, but it will help.

For still images, perhaps the stand-alone photo editing softwares might do a better job, in that they can resample pictures, as opposed to resize. Please post the picture, like Merlin7777 said.
