In Doom9's news update for 1/11, he mentions that "Panasonic will release a DVD player supporting wma (windows media audio) and wmv (windows media video)." This sounded great so I went and searched the web for more info, and turned up the following 3 articles:

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2002/Jan02/01-07PanasonicPR.asp
http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/01/09/panasonic.media.idg/
http://www.internetnews.com/ent-news/article/0,,7_950061,00.html

Well, now I am very disappointed because in none of these articles does it state that the DVD player will play WMV, just WMA (audio files). The first article is a little confusing because they talk about WMV at one point, but they never say the player will support it. So Doom9, I believe you made a mistake here.

Still waiting for a standalone DVD player that supports one of the new video compression formats.

Do recent versions of WMV use MPEG4-v3?
