There are two HCenc windows open and runnnig with DVD Rebuilder Pro. Is that normal. I thought only one ought be running.

As I wrote this, one HC closed and the Overall Progress jumped from 1.x% to 4.7%.

It is normal if Multiple Encoder Processes is selected (assuming you have dual / quad core system).

From memory the % is updated within DVD-RB when an instance of HC finishes the segment it's working on and hands back to DVD-RB which then executes another instance of HC to process the next segment.

Hi zacoz,
I just checked and I do have "Multiple Encoder Processes" checked. I'm not even sure why I have it checked--I probably checked it off sometime just to experiment. I don't have a dual or quad core processor--but it is Hyperthreaded. It is a Pentium 3.0 Gig HT thats about 3-4 years old.

Should I be leaving Multiple Encoder Processes checked off? What would be the advantages/disadvantages of it? Cheers.

Since you have hyperthreading the operating system indicates there are two processors (apparently), so DVD-RB tries to take advantage of it. It's probably a little faster with two processes running -- but I'd give it a test to be sure if I were you. If you see the cpu running at a higher percentage with two instances running, it's likely a little quicker.

You think the two instances is interesting, you should see four of them running on my quad-core Phenom.

I’m guessing then that there would be no benefit to multiple encoder instances on an old, single core, non-HT system whose CPU gets maxed out at 100% with a single encoder process right?

I’d rather see that on my own; now if I could just figure out how to get one… :p

You're right.
