View Full Version : XviD Versions 1.1.x newbie question...

I have had Koepi's Xvid-1.1.2-01112006 installed for ages and recently had a problem with VirtualDub crashing when viewing an XviD video with the following:

"An out-of-bounds memory access (access violation) occurred in module 'xvidcore'"

Then I noticed that Xvid-1.1.3-28062007 was available so I installed that. No crash, and horrible big green blocks clearly visible in the problematic section.

My questions are:

In GSpot why does it show XviD 1.1.2 Final as the Codec name when I encode with Xvid-1.1.3-28062007 installed?
Could the horrible big green blocks be due to invalid frames?

Thanks for any help!

Can you cut out this problematic section of the video using VirtualDubMoD, upload it somewhere and give us the link? I'd like to look at it.

Thanks.

I'll extract the problematic section with a Direct Stream copy in VirtualDub. Where can I upload it to, are there some freebee hosting sites for this file type?

Meanwhile here's a snapshot of one of the problematic frames:

Here is the link to the bad section:

http://www.badongo.com/vid/679102

The first frames are ok, then VirtualDub crashes with Koepi's Xvid-1.1.2-01112006 installed.

Would be interested to know what's the scoop with this!

Ok, after extensive testing it turns out the XviD video file was corrupted during the copying process from a hard drive to a "suspect" USB pen drive. I checked the MD5's and they didn't match up

I guess the new version of Koepi's Xvid codec build is more tolerant to corruption and that's why it didn't crash with Xvid-1.1.3-28062007 and the USB pen drive version of the video.

Lessons learned (for me): Windows is rubbish for not telling me that the file didn't copy without errors, or certain USB pen drives are rubbish for not reporting any errors.

Thanks for bearing with me!
